What can be done about an infestation of fleas on a dogs head and face? Dog is a pom weighing no more than 5 lbs. She is 7 years old.

She has had frontline used on her until last month then her owner switched to the one with all the stuff together.

If you can get a capstar pill from a vet I would do that and it will kill fleas quickly. Then I would look at putting on another application of advantage, advantix, or frontline. If frontline was working I would use it again.

Kris You need to treat you house too. That is where the fleas are living and breeding. You do not have to call an expensive service to spray just go to Walmart or somehwere and buy some fela bombs. You need to get a good quality type that kills the fleas AND their EGGS.You will need to be able to take your dogs out of the house for at least 3 hours, put flea bombs in each room ( not bathrooms) and follow the instructions on the cans. before you take dogs back inside bathe them and put Frontline or something on them. I love Comfortis which is a pill the dog chews once a month. All 4 of my big dogs take that and we have no fleas.I also live in the country. This will cost you about $20 dollars but it will be worth it to you and your family. I do this twice a year just to make sure those little biters are dead !

I would get a vet prescribed flea shampoo. A small dog like a pom can become anemic from flea bites. For every flea you see there are 50 you don't. Bomb the house and spray the yard, car, and anywhere else the dog is. Repeat in 2 weeks.
Treating the dog is only a small portion of the work needed to rid them.

simple go to the store and get a bottle of original palmolive dish soap. best way to do when they have that many is to get old wash rag wet and put alot of the soap on it, rub this into the coat starting at head back. and do not put the dog in water first, flies has some way of fighting off stuff or protecting themselves, but if you do it this way they will die. yes seems like a lot of work but just try once if you want to help the dog i garentee you will kill a lot of flies. when done put in water and rub for while longer. try to get all of it rinsed out bbecause it will dry there skin out. best way to help this is i get a dog condition shampoo and turn around and give another bath. my dog stays happy and flea free.
if you have fleas in house or even outside get you some seven dust it will kill them.
sorry so long , just trying to help you

Go back to using Front Line! But first the owner can try spraying a good flea spray on a wash cloth and wiping it around her eyes, nose and head. And be sure to get in her ears.

'the one with all the stuff together' - what's that, exactly? If it's something from a store, it won't work.

I would say, switch back to Frontline if you've seen a problem since changing it.

Frontline DOES NOT WORK! Advantix, kills so fast fleas don't last! Give her a flea dip, that should work.

here is a simple and easy way, 1. mix some garlic in with her food, fleas hate it , and 2. wash her in dawn dish soap ,kills they fleas and is cheap and not harmful at all to them, then of course boom the house ,I know this sounds to easy , but it is tried and true way,
