One last try - last try, I promise. Well, for tonight anyway. How many actually believe it's impossible to be a Jew and an Atheist? And Why?

If you are curious as to why I'm asking this, look at the following -

Now maybe you can understand what is going on with the question I asked earlier..... and why I ask this now. Guess I'm just irked that anyone can honestly believe it is impossible to be an Atheist AND a Jew.

Julia D - Exactly what I was trying to state... it seems many people don't realize there is a difference, but continue to state that claiming to be a Jew means not only being born a Jew but also that one follows the Religion itself, which is not always the case. Thank you!

mypublicident - Considering the Jew's basic language is Hebrew... why would the Jews give in to a Latin Based Lang (and obviously you don't know much about English in general... it's derived from more than Latin... French, German, Italian, etc... English is a HUGE mix of different languages.... Latin is merely one small part of the mix. English is a Mutt compared to other languages) If you are going to find out anything about the Jews, you go to a Jew... not anyone else....

Um. My mother was born Jewish (her mother was Jewish and according to Torah law, this makes her a Jew), and she did not believe in God from the time she was a teen until she died in her 60s.

She was, therefore, a Jewish athiest.

People need to understand that there is sometimes a difference between being born a Jew and believing in God and following the Jewish religion.

hey do NOT always go hand in hand.

A born Jew can grow up to believe in Judaism, Christianity, or Buddhism, or Hinduism, or NOTHING AT ALL.

Just like anyone else.

Well, according to the info you gave last time you posted a question you can be a Jew ethnically speaking but that doesn't necessarily imply that you profess the Jewish religion

I think he is refering Jew as an ethnicity, not a religion. Thats the only explaination I can see. But if he doesn't mean it that way, then I'm just ask confused!

I've always be a bit confused about the Jew vs Hebrew thing. I thought the race was hebrew but the religion was Jew. I assume that any race can be atheist, but very few religions can.

Oxymoron comes to mind.

Anyone that says that they or someone is a Jew Atheist does not have a grasp of our latin based language.

Add> irregardless, the definitions of the two words are still conflicted. Maybe I was mistaken for using the Latin reference as it seemed to confound you.

It is the same as a Muslim Atheist, you are born a Muslim but you do not believe in Muslim.

For Jew Atheist, you are born a Jew, but you do not believe in Jewish god.

The oxymoron comes when you say you are a Jewish Muslim or a Jewish Christian.

Jew is a race and religion. I guess you could turn your back on the religion and still be part of the culture.

a Jew is NOT necessarily a religion in their case.

Jew is a nationality, their nation, and a religion.

In reference to the persons comments, they were making a statement. Jews don't necessarily believe in Christ, although more and more do every day.
