u need to enter bios settup ... F1, F2 ,or the DEL key on bootup ... set ur pc to boot from cdrom first and HD0 second ... then exit settup/ save changes put in the xp disk reboot and follow the prompts to delete partitions .. also its best to disconnect any secondary or other harddrives and disconnect all peripheral equipment AND the internet while ur installing windows ... then install ur drivers when ur done and then a software firewall .. and THEN conect to the internet and go to windows update ..

i have the windows xp pro CD, but the one i have is copied.
i got the copied cd from Class, i also have the non genuine of windows xp servive pack 2, but i installed the Genuine of windows xp pro, because i know that the teacher would lend copies of xp, which are in this case, Genuine!
just make sure your Computer read the windows xp DISK!
yeah your boot sequence has to be CD rom on the first boot device!

You first make sure that your computer meets all the requirments. Then you should backup all important documents, pictures, music and no on, just in case. The you put the cd into the computer and install the operating system.
Now this should be a very simple process, unless of course if you have Vista on your computer and are trying to downgrade to XP. Then your going to be running into all sorts of problems.
