Short of living in the country or being in some situation where you think and use Spanish only, tapes are great. The problem is they only go to a certain level. If you get there maybe you could make advances tapes to sell and make some money, because I can't find any past second year Spanish. And you can get Cd's or tapes at the library. Get's your pronunciation in too. The problem in learning is that English or your earlier languages block Spanish so thinking in the language as much as possible, maybe just the part to can of a sentence. Oh, yeah, it's locked in your subconscious so if you can develop intuition by studying a little on Emotional Intelligence and intuition. If you're talking grammar, a tutor, like another student or Spanish club might be a source. The teacher might have some ideas as well..

If you are already taking a class, I suggest you practice outside of class to improve your abilities. If you can't actually practice speaking it, try things like trying to read short stories/articles in Spanish, but make sure they are at your level. If they are too easy you won't improve, and if they are too hard you will get frustrated.

You could also try watching the Spanish channels on TV. Try putting on closed captioning while watching, that way you can hear it and see it written at the same time. (Plus it seems to me that it is easier to understand when you read it).

Or, many DVDs have options to change the language or add subtitles. Try watching it in Spanish with English subtitles, or the other way around. That way you can make the connection between the Spanish words and the English translation.

Also, the site www.studyspanish.com has some great resources, if you want to learn some more, or reinforce what you've already learned. There is information about verbs, grammar, pronunciation (audio as well), expressions, etc. as well as practice quizzes and interesting links. I think it is worth a visit.

Buena suerte :) (Good luck)

I assume you are taking a Spanish class. Make sure you study a lot and practice a ton. The only way to get good at a language is to practice speaking it. Growing up in San Diego, I was fluent in Spanish before I was even in high school because I had to communicate with many Spanish speaking people on a regular basis. My mom taught me Spanish and English when I was a kid because if you have ever lived in San Diego, you know that being able to speak Spanish is a great asset.

This may sound strange, but try to watch Spanish soap opera (I'm sure you'll have a Spanish station in your area). If you can locate some Spanish music video (with subtitle), you can watch that also. I feel that the easiest way to learn a language is through entertainment. With the music video, you can improve you reading comprehension in addition to your listenning skill.

Watch some Spanish novelas (soap operas) and try to pick up words here and there. PBS has some great Spanish novelas as lessons with captions.
