nope, if he is old enough, he needs to get a job to earn the money for the bike he wants, I'm not going to shell out money for a whim..........

Contrary to what others think (IMO) this is NOT about money, or "responsibility"....it's about health! There was a grim joke on some show (probably ER) a couple years ago, in which a Dr. called motorcycles "donor-cycles"!
That isn't stretching it at all. I know THREE people (and I don't know many people, period!), who have lost ENTIRE legs in motorcycle accidents!
When I was a teenager, I thought it might be fun to take a ride on one...I just got my leg burned on the exhaust! My brother had a dirt-bike, then a big Ducati 750, and after falling and/or bracing himself thru several accidents, ruined his knees (they both had to be replaced--then while playing Frisbee, one let loose, shredded his artery and he almost died!).
Here's another grim story: my sister's good friend (NICE guy, really smart and charming), was just TALKING to a girl out in some Rocky Mtn. town (NOT South Park!) and her redneck "boyfriend" chased the guy down in his pick-up (the friend was on a motorcycle), ran him off the road and injured him so badly his leg was amputated ABOVE the hip! *cringe!!!!* The pain was so bad, this 20-something guy, full of life and adventure, killed himself!
So...if motorcycles don't KILL ya, they can turn you into an "old man" WAYYY before your time. Lame guys are NOT too sexy, except in the movies, I bet.
Don't get me wrong! I used to race bikes, downhill and XC ski , and other dangerous stuff. Then gradually, it DAWNED on me...WHY am I doing this? Can't I have safer fun? Hell, sex (if done right) is WAY more fun than any bike race or ride...and if it's NOT, then you're doing it badly!
Save your body while you're young, because it'll decay and fall apart ALL by itself, without you helping it along!

Nope. They can be dangerous, and no way would I contribute to his possibly hurting himself. When he's of age, and making his own money he can buy one himself, if he still wants it.

Absolutely not. A parent is responsible for protecting their child. Giving him/her expensive and dangerous presents is stupid.
