You should melt it first or you will lower your core temperature by eating it frozen and increase your risk of hypothermia.

Well true it will just melt in your mouth anyway. Just make sure its not yellow, dirty or has any debris.

If you're dying of thirst, eat the snow!!! If you would feel safer melting it over a fire, go ahead.

Melt it first snow will lower your body temperature making it easier to fall into hypothermia .but your first concern is shelter snow caves are best if there's not enough snow for that build a lean to and dig a pit and bury yourself with dry leaves or pine needles this will help insulate you. your order of priority's should be shelter first then water then food and you shouldn't eat food unless you have ample water supply Hint don't melt the yellow snow

Better to melt it first, eating the snow directly will bring down body temperature, increasing the chance for hypothermia. The next question is "How do you melt it". If you hold it next to your body, it will, once again bring down your body temp.

All I know is, when I lived in Alaska, they always told us to not eat snow, to let it melt first, in an emergency situation .

1st person who answered is mentally retarded.

I would eat the snow before it melted, because letting it set long enough to melt might give bacteria the chance to grow in it, therefore making it more harmful than a little brainfreeze of the snow.
