fear. folks are afraid of taking responsibilty for themselves. telling someone that they are god puts the burden of all their problems on them. it puts the responsibility for the evil in the world on them. telling someone that they are god puts a demand for action on them and, frankly, folks are afraid to take action to change the world. it is much easier to just accept the present state of the world and wait for heaven and god to come find you.
most people can't see past their egos and don't want to. that's why "do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" inspires such fear in people. they have been told that they cannot control themselves and that there has to be someone to be their master. they don't understand that they are capable of being their own master, if they are willing to do the work to conquer their ego and find their True Will.
good question. too bad most folks won't quite grasp it.

I've go no problem with it at all. I've been saying "Thou art God" since I read "Stranger in a Strange Land" back in the 1960s. But the Law of Thelema, implying complete responsibility for our actions, including even unintended consequences, is a little too strong for most people to take. Also, they may have heard that it was written by Aleister Crowley, and they have been taught to fear the Great Beast.

Actually, I find solipsism to be a beautiful doctrine, but with one fatal flaw--it has nothing to do with observable reality. If a person really were a god, you'd have no trouble levitating, turning the moon to green cheese, or messing around with the basic physical laws of the Universe. When I win the Powerball jackpot three or four times in a row, then I might seriously consider that I was some sort of god...
P.S. The small-minded person who gave everybody a thumbs down is certainly not a divinity in his or her own right...

It seems like nonsense to most people because they have an idea of what a "god" is, and they know they are not it. If you say that some human is a god, then either you mean something different by "god" than most people understand by the word, or else you're just talking nonsense.

Because it's not a 'cognitive realization'.
The hater of God and all that is His, satan, places that thought in the heads of men and they run with it. They are running as fast as they can from the True God because they know who He really is.
Ever wonder why athiests, agnostics, and other religions never attack each other, only Jesus, the God of the Bible???
