He was just a man. One who has been dead 2,000 years. It's some of his followers that worry me.

I am or would like to be a christian who loves to love God but to say in public, "Christ loves you!" or "Jesus loves you!" I can't do. Does this mean I am afraid of Christ?
I am not afraid of Christ, but when I read the bible on the human being -Christ that lived, there isn't much draw on his human character (though He is Son of God). And I know I am mistaken as I continue this topic. But these are thoughts of my heart. My idol is good thinking and quietude. I remember reading the part in which Christ gets so upset in his father's temple. His almost Socrates' -like existence in which he was very unpopular with the authorities makes me NOT want to be like him. I believe in pacifism and peace, not disrupting authority and such. A personal dilemma for me--all this understanding and differentiating the human personality Christ took upon and his Spirit personality as Son of God.

No person has to be afraid of Christ, for Christ does not desire for people to be afraid of Him. When the Bible speaks of fearing God, it is not referring to being afraid, but of showing respect for Him. I do not mean that we should not always remember that He could destroy every one of us in the twinkling of an eye, but always remember that God is love; and the only thing that He wants for us is good to come our way. He simply wants us to trust in Him, and serve Him faithfully; not be afraid of Him.

Why oh why... would I ever be afraid of Jesus? I don't really understand the question. Just because I don't believe that a man who lived 2000 years is the key to my happiness, doesn't mean that I somehow fear him.

I'm afraid of people who think they know about Christ and look down on those whose beliefs differ.

He IS supposed to come back waving a sword.
But mainly because some of his followers have gotten out of hand and become dangerous all on their own.

As a Subgenius, I reiterate the party line: It's not Jesus as much as his fan club. It's the Crusaders, witch-burners, Grand Inquisitors, heretic-torturers, militant Puritans, blue-nosers, fanatics, and others who do unchristian things in his name...

Protestants believe that you can only get into Heaven if you put your faith in Jesus. This means that good people who are nonbelievers are sent to Hell. This means that Jesus uses the same criteria for sending people to Hell that Hiltler used for sending people to Auchwitz. WOuldn't you fear someone who was that evil?
