I had 3 dozens! It was a family gathering at a hotel and we were having international buffet dinner. My father in law joked that if I didn't stop eating, the hotel would go bankrupt.

Oysters, no. We have tons of clams where I live, all sizes but mostly the largest of the hardshelled clams, which are called called quahogs. They are about as big as the back of your hand. I love them raw on the halfshell. Most people think they are disgusting but I could eat 2 or 3 dozen by myself. I can't eat more than that. Not that I don't want to. The family grabs the rest and steams them to eat with tons of melted butter.

I ate raw oysters out of curiosity (I first wrote "I hate raw oysters"...was that a Freudian slip?) and to find out what the big deal was about those, and also to please my boyfriend who loved them. Luckily, I married that boyfriend and now I'm divorcing him so hopefully, I'll never have to swallow those poor live creatures ever again. You don't really eat oysters, you never chew them (THAT would be really disgusting), you just swallow them (I suspect to get rid of them more quickly?) and get a taste of sea water as you imagine the poor little thing dying a slow painful death in your stomach acids. That little dash of lemon of hot sauce that you use on them, prior to their doom is just a test to make sure they're still moving (I'll squirt lemon in your eyes...let's see if you're still moving!) proving they're still alive. If you eat a dead raw oyster, that little bugger will make you pay dearly for all the other ones that you tortured. I like meat, I like fish, I'm not a vegetarian, but I think I draw a line where it comes to eating something LIVE! Also cooked oysters are disgusting, go for mussels instead.

Usually I just eat one if I do have one straight off the half-shell.
I've never eaten them at a resturaunt or anything, just when my dad used to bring them home from Pass Christian in big sacks. He would sit on the back porch with his gloves and knife and crack those things open one by one.
They're actually amazingly good with a saltine and some cocktail sauce made of horseradish and ketchup. Really, truly, honest to Simon and Garfunkel, they are surprisingly tasty. Just be sure to also have a bowl of breathmints after that, or you'll knock out anyone in a five-mile radius if you happen to yawn.

I've enjoyed both oyster shooters and Oysters on the Half Shell, but I've never had more than two or three at a sitting.
It's not that I dislike them, I just prefer Oysters Rockefeller.

Our ones now are just too damn expensive now, over $20 a dozen, so it is a treat for us to have 6 each.
There are cheaper Oysters, like Pacific, but they are bland when compared to the Bluff oyster.

One was sooo big I tried to close my lips arounbd it and couldn't. Who ever heard of having to cut an oyster in half?
