Welcome home.

I think you should talk to your parish priest about your situation. He will answer your questions and let you know about your choices. Call and make an appointment. Do not be nervous.

I also suggest that you find out for sure which sacraments you have received or not received. The parish where you were baptized should have your sacramental records.

With love and prayers in Christ.

I agree that the best thing to do is go talk with a priest and tell him what you've told us. He may recommend that you attend some of the RCIA classes for preparation since you've not gone to confession before, but if you're a baptized Catholic (which is permanent, by the way, and was most definitely Christian baptism; the "re-baptism" wasn't necessary and didn't change it) and are anxious to go to confession, he will take that into consideration and help you receive your sacraments as timely as possible.

Your desire to receive the sacraments is a very special grace all by itself, so take comfort in the sufficiency of this grace until you're back in full communion with the Church -- which, from what you've said here, will be soon. And definitely start going back to Mass in the meantime, even before you are able to receive communion. Peace be with you, and welcome home.

Definitely talk to a priest immediately. You will confess that you haven't been to mass in years and any grave sins that you can remember and ask forgiveness for those you have forgotten. That is all that is required to begin receiving communion again and a full-fledged Catholic. I would also suggest you at least attend some RCIA meetings to try and get some information about the faith you are returning to.

Make an appointment with a priest. Ask around for recommendations for a nice one.

Tell him what you have said here. He will lead you step by step---and he will be very happy to do it .

Do not just go to scheduled Confessions...you will need the freedom to take your time.

You should have gone to confession before 1st COmmunion.

I am not an expert but I will try to answer your questions. The best way I think is for you to just keep on participating in the mass without taking communion.

When you you feel you would like to 'confess' your sins that's the time to see a priest. Tell him the whole story. Do you know how to make a confession?

1. You always have the option to go to confession anonymously, that is, behind the screen or face to face, if you so desire.

2. After the priest greets you in the name of Christ, make the sign of the cross. He may choose to include a reading from Scripture for reflection. Then say: "Bless me Father for I have sinned. It has been (state how long) since my last confession. These are my sins."

3. Tell your sins simply and honestly to the priest. (You might even want to discuss the circumstances and the root causes of your sins and ask the priest for advice and direction.)

4. Listen to the advice the priest gives you and accept the penance from him. Then make an Act of Contrition for your sins.

5. The priest will dismiss you with the words of praise: "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good" or the "the Lord has freed you from your sins. Go in peace." And you respond by saying either: "His mercy endures forever" or "Thanks be to God."

6. Spend time with our Lord thanking and praising Him for the gift of His mercy. Try to perform your penance as soon as possible.

An Act of Contrition

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they have offended Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

Welcome home!

Talk to a priest and explain your situation to him. I think I would be the best thing if you went through RCIA if only to learn the faith. That's what I did two years ago; best decision of my life.

So good to hear that you're back - welcome home, and God bless.
