I work with this girl at work that stated that she fly’s to Canada every now and again… She owns her own plan so it is not that big... Also she is taking flying lessons… That is great more power to you!! But now my question… She told the office when she is going to Canada that is takes a total of 12 hrs one way??? Even in a smaller plan does it really take that long?? You are going with the jet stream at that point or are you not? How long would it take going as slow as possible in a plane?? Also she stated that it would cost her in fuel to fly to Canada was $300 dollars there and $300 dollars back??? Really??? Was she being confused with driving or what??? I really need an answer to this question bad…………

Yes, it is very possible that it would take her that long to fly. I haven't looked at the map to see the distances between the two points but smaller planes do not travel as fast as the commercial jets. Also, at the lower altitudes you will not have the benefit of the jet stream. The jet stream is mainly in the higher altitudes and smaller planes will rarely get above 10,000 feet. So she is probably telling the truth.

I havnt flown in a while, and I'm not sure where she is flying out of in going to Canada. Yes, some flights can take 12 hours, it all depends on the distance and the aircraft. Most light aircraft that people learn in don't make anywhere near the time as you get in a large commercial airliner. A three hour drive on a highway can take as long as one and a half to two hours in a light aircraft (depending on the type). $600 dollars of fuel, im not sure, for a 12 hour flight, I would expect about a gas stop every 5 or so on a light airplane. It might amount more than that in my opinion, but then, I havnt flown in a long time to validate the fuel prices.
