Make sure she goes potty before you put her into her crate and I would suggest about 4 hours from that time waking up and taking her out again. But make sure when she is yelping that you dont go to her that this a learned behaiov that when she cries or whines you come running. Put a puupy pad in the crate to try and help absorb some of the mess so she is not so soaked in urnine as well you can by grated for the pens so she wont get it on her. Good luck

You might be giving her too much space in her crate. If you have a divider for your crate you should use it to give her just enough space. Dogs normally do not use the bathroom where they sleep. My 7wk old C. Spaniel is crate trained but he has the divider so he will not use bathroom in the back part of the crate. Also soon as you take her out the crate take her directly outside everytime and she will get the hint very quickly. She also needs to be taken outside more often such as in the middle of the night and/or early morn.
Good Luck!

If the crate is too big the puppy may pee in a far corner, but my gut tells me it's something else. How often during the day does she go? Could it be a urinary tract infection? Make sure she gets enough exercise so she will sleep all night, I gotta pee if I wake up too. I had a dog that just wouldn't go outside, he was used to being kenneled and I had to retrain him to go outdoors.

Instead of bothering with getting up on the middle of the night (like I fought for several months)...try this. We had the same problem, and we found out that our crate was too big. Try putting a box or something in there to down size the crate.

She's too young to hold it all night yet. Set an alarm around 2-3am and take her outside again. My toy breed pup is currently 5 months, and he JUST started making it through the night (from about 11pm-6am) a week or two ago. Up until then, he still needed his 1-2am potty break. Give it a shot, and give her another month or two to get her bladder used to holding it. She's almost there.

You might have to get up around 1-2 am and let her out to go potty.
You must remember she is a puppy and her bladder isn't that big, and she probably just can't hold it all night long.
Put a pee pad in her crate to soak up any pee...

The crate should only be big enough for the dog to lay down comfortably. Also, do not leave water for the dog over night.

Six hours without peeing is obviously longer longer than she can take. Sort of a rough estimate is about 1 hour for every month of age, until they're about 6 - 8 mos. old. If she is peeing very frequently, I might be inclined to take her to the vet just to make sure there's not a urinary tract infection or something of that sort going on.

ok she is only 4 months old..she needs to be taken out at night probably every 3 hours at the most..i know, who wants to get up in the middle of the night..but hey its better than getting up in the morning to pee in the crate right? i've done it before, its like having a kid, just something you have to do..i've done foster care and i have my own puppy, i've spent many nights up with a puppy taking them out, even during the winter and its bitter cold up here in Michigan during the middle of the night! dogs aren't supposed to pee in their crate, but i'm sure you'd pee in your pants if you were made to hold it just a minute too long. so if you have to i would take turns with who gets up to take her out..if you go to bed at 11 get up around 2 and 5, or maybe 1 and 4..good luck
