When someone asked Jesus how many times he should forgive someone, Jesus said to forgive him "seventy times seven," a phrase meaning an indefinite number. If Jesus follows his own advice, he should forgive people indefinitely, so it doesn't matter how many times you sin, he'll forgive you. That's probably why there are so many CHrisitans in prison--they know that all they have to do is ask Sweet Jesus for forgiveness, and they have a free ticket to heaven.

I would like to give universal answer not conservative.
The formula which prompted for this proposition might be different.
No religion encourages sin, wrong, unruliness, misbehaviour.
At the same time either the religion or the Law ready to forgive those persons who realized their mistakes, sins etc.
No religion would give blanket immunity for sinners.
If any one says it is there then definitely it is not all a religion.
Understanding of words of Holy Books always must be with commonsense and entirety of the proposition.
The interpretation of the statement would be rationale;
that the sinners who realized their sin will be absolved from the misdeeds and punishment.
WE need not be swayed by the catchy slogan “sinners will be forgiven", that intended to attract.
Religion is a universal constitution. Problem is with the persons who are distorting fundamentals of a religion.
Let us understand the religious principles in its true sense.

You don't just ask for forgiveness. You have to have genuine repentance for your sin, turning away from it, and a true genuine sorrow for what you've done, and even make restitution if others are affected by your sin. God knows your heart and only forgives when you are genuine.
Also, the sins we commit are covered by the blood of Jesus as far as getting into heaven goes.....If you believe in Jesus, you go to heaven.....if you don't believe in Jesus, well, you have another destination. Jesus is the only way to God.
Once you believe, as long as we are in this human body, we will sin, maybe even daily. We will be judged for salvation, but we will also be judged for the deeds done in this body, whether good or bad. It's a separate judgment than whether we go to heaven or not. And unforgiven sin we carry to heaven will take away from our rewards. There will still be an accountability for the way we live our Christian life. It is not a license to sin when we are saved. And the sins we do commit after salvation will deeply disturb our inner peace to the point we will make it right with God and man. That's the work of the Holy Spirit within the believer.

Because....you miss the point. We are all going to sin, it is a matter of fact. The point in Christianity (and many others) is to repent of your sin and avoid giving into temptation...to overcome that sin the next time you are faced with it. Besides...how would your way work? What if you never ask for forgiveness and then one day, when you are not prepared, you are killed...when did you get the chance to ask for forgiveness? Your last question assumes that we choose when we die...not always the case. Sometimes we may die before we feel it is our time. Remember, no one promised we would live through the night!

I don't know about the whole "sin and forgiveness" thing, but asking ANYONE for forgiveness is like saying your sorry. I tell my kids and my husband, if you have done something wrong, and you know your probably going to do it again because you liked it, DON'T tell me your sorry because your NOT truly sorry! So if a person that asks for forgiveness knowing they will do the same sin again the next day, they aren't truly sorry, and if there is a God, from what the bible says, he knows your heart anyway and if you are truly sorry for your sin.

Well I can see your way of thinking, The only thing is when you become a christian the desire to sin is not there. When we do sin the Holy Spirit shows us. It's like a newborn, they crawl before they can walk, then run. The part you said just keep sinning until the end then ask forgiveness, the problem with that is we don't know exactly when our end is.

What most people just don't get is that we are not supposed to be deliberately sinning. Why? Because forgiveness only comes with repentance, and repentance is not a flippant "I'm sorry" but a heartfelt and deep regret over what you have done. Repenting means to turn away from what you did before. But the beauty of forgiveness for those who repent and sincerely want to stop their sin is that our God allows 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and even 70x7th chances.

That is fanaticism to think we can sin and be forgiven again and again. We have to apply the philosophy of religions principles or we will suffer for each of our actions. Unless one understands Karma, Reincarnation and no one goes to hell eternally no one can understand the unlimited mercy of God. Jesus originally taught these principles but King Constantine took them out to control the citizens. The Krishna Conscious (Bhakti yoga) teaches full surrender gets one the the eternal kingdom of God and that means stop sinning. Jesus also taught this but they no not his teachings. (on a few know) google gospelofthenazirenes.com for the original teachings of Jesus. Following the Truth will sent one free. Believing means following the instructions. Like Go and sin no more. And if they don't then another birth in the material world to get their kama.

My church believes that there are different glories (or "levels") of heaven, as talked about in the bible that there were Celestial, Telestial, and Terrestrial "bodies"....anyway...
The Celestial Glory is for people who accepted the gospel and lived great lives. The people who did not know about Jesus Will get a chance to learn in the afterlife and if they accept it there they will be in the Celestial kingdom as well.
The Terrestrial Glory is for those who lived good lives, knew the gospel of Jesus, and did not accept it. Like Gandhi...great person, most likely knew about Christianity, but did not accept it.
And there is the Telestial Glory for those who knew of the Gospel but lived horrible lives(thieves, murderers, etc.) and did not repent until after you died...
So even in my religion, if you wait to repent AFTER you die...there is nothing good about it besides not going to heaven.
BESIDES, what is a few minutes at the end of the day to say "God, forgive me for doing *this and that*, amen."?

The bible says if you call on the name of the Lord, you will be saved. It also says you have to be repentant. How can you be truly remorseful if it was your plan all the while to play and at the last minute ask for forgiveness? Moreover, what if you die in an instant and don't have that last minute to cry out to God?
