You don't list your answer under religion and spirituality and then say don't give a religious answer. Besides, the question makes no sense whether religious or otherwise. You don't normally give your life in a calculated way, where you weigh all the pluses and minuses or if God will smile apon you. It normally measured at the moment. I also can't help but wonder what purpose the answers to such a question could be put to.

I dont think that you would have to worry about the minimum that you would save - if you are going to give your life to save others then there's no need to worry about how many to begin with.

I am not sure. The situation (thankfully) has never come up.
ADD: I am not sure I would give my life for anyone. Partly because I am not sure that I could take death matter of factly.
There are several people that I would RISK my life for. That is more tangible to me.
ADD ADD: I think this could qualify as a spirituality question...but he gets the answers he gets!

If I valued my life and my reasoning beyond the reasoning of my suggestor that I needed to die for others, I would die for noone! Perhaps I would take another path. But if I believed this messenger, if I was brainwashed enough not to be able to think another thought, I could die for one person. I would have to think that that one person meant more to the passions that I have within me and could have the potential, from my sacrifice to do the world better than I could have from my passions or that they could learn from my death to do that.
If not, 0 is the answer.

The question is not how many lives, but the situation in giving up your life. Who, what, why. As such, I could not answer.

The only person I can honestly say that I would lay my life down for would be my child. (without hesitation)
