i work in the electricians union in las vegas, we work from 3AM-2PM 11 hour days, 6-7 days a week, and its VERY physically demanding heavy lifting and all that , my feet and hands are in pain every day and im only 18, not to mention las vegas's 100+ heat, every day im miserable and hate my life, but the money is pretty good, do you think it would be worth it to quit? i was thinkin bout goin back to school, to study in culinary arts, but the cooks union around here isnt as much money, or i would take some business classes to and maybe open up my own shop, but i think i would enjoy it more, but who knows, do you think its worth the risk for me to quit, to try out a profession for less money, but may or may not like more? is hating your job just a part of life? or should i strive for a job i love?
one thing to note is that i'm not actually makin that much bank right now, only about $10/hr(time and a half on overtime, and double time on sundays)

Yeah, go to school and get into the field that you would most find enjoyable. Why be so miserable? your only 18. A person your age should be in school trying to get that diploma anyway. Why do you work so mich now? Do you have to pay rent? or just for the sakes of having money?

You're 18 years old, work crummy hours, many days, at a physically demanding job -- AND YOU ALREADY HURT!

Sweetie, this is not your life's work. For one thing, if you're already in pain what are you going to do at 50? My ex-husband is a 56 year old stage hand, and let me tell you how much he hurts every day.

You probably have the least amount of responsibilities right now that you'll ever have. What better time would there be to take the leap and try for a career you'll love. Don't lock yourself into something you hate because you make $10 an hour, which is not all that much money anyway.

In 30 years, you don't want to dread getting up each morning.

Depending on the school, all it may take is having the money to pay for the tuition. At least for the basics. Once you get past the prerequisites, you will have to be able to pass tests and take courses to get into higher level courses. So it's all going to depends on the school and what it takes to get into it. But most schools will take you if you can pass the entrance exams. The higher end culinary schools may require that you have more than a GED, but you won't know unless you ask. So I'd either call or visit the local Culinary Arts Schools near you, and see what they have to say.

No matter how much money a job pays if there is no job satisfaction or enjoyment of your work it isn't worth it. All the money in the world won't make up for the stress of doing a job you hate every day. If you really want to study culinary arts-go for it. A career that is enjoyable is more important than making more money and being miserable. If necessary work part time at another job while going to school.

Go for it! It isn't part of life to hate your job. I absolutely LOVE mine!! I could be getting paid more but happiness matters. Chefs can make some very nice money in the right market. You will never know until you give it a shot. Afterall, $10 isn't a windfall!! GOOD LUCK!!

$10 an hour in the Union ?
Base journeyman rate where I worked was $40 and time and a 1/2 started after 35 hours .

I was going to tell you to save your bucks for culinary school ,
But that $10 seems fake so I'm doubting your question .
