My little sister was at my neighbors house and she was playing with 5 pound weights and on accident she dropped the weight on her left hand and it has been bleeding for a while. We gave her childrens motrin and she says it doesn't hurt anymore but she can feel it throbbing. Her hand is elevated on 3 pillows. the nail is falling off and she is only 6 so as you can imagine she has little pain tolerance other than taking her to the ER how can we get the bleeding to stop? Thanks for your help in advance!!

When I cut my finger, the lady helping me applied pressure to my big toe and it stopped bleeding. Hope that helps!

Keep the hand elevated above the heart, gravity will keep the blood from rushing to the hand, also put ice pack on the finger to also assist in stopping the bleeding. The injury should start to coagulate and form a clot and then put some Antibiotic salve on it and a band aid . If you can not stop it, go to your physician. Good Luck!

One of the treatments they use in first aid if they have a hard time getting a cut to stop bleeding is to put super glue over the cut. It burns like hell but it both sterilizes the flesh and stops the bleeding.

You could bandage it as tight as she can tolerate and apply an ice bag. You can use a frozen vegetable like peas for the ice bag or a baggie with ice cubes.Keep it elevated like you are and it should stop bleeding soon.
