My computer turns off automatically when you leave it on for hours. Before it turns off, I smell something burning (mild smell), then after a couple of minutes, it turns off by itself.

Then, when it's shut down, and I press the "on" button, nothing happens. I have to pull the plug off the socket, put it back on, pull the plug, put it back on, until it finally turns on again.

Why does this happen lately? It didn't happen before, and it's even turned on longer.

What you are discribing is a good example of overheating. once a cpu hits its reset temp max (usually between 60 and 80 degrees Celcius) it will shutdown and hard lock the power. thus the need for unplugging the PSU and clearing the power from the system. I would try installing another fan in the system and applying better thermal paste to the processor such as Arctic Silver. It could also be a power supply failing, and replacing that could fix your problem

This sounds like what happens with many laptops when the fan inside is either not working properly or is dusty and dirty. They have an automatic shutoff for when the temperature gets too hot inside so as not to fry the motherboard. Do a search on Yahoo for the model number and also include "over heating" and other descriptive words in the search. I had to do that with my laptop and discovered that the fan was dirty and I could buy a can of compressed air to keep it clean inside, But, every model is different so check yours out online.

Sounds like a weak or dieing power supply. Peak load..KERCHINK ! If its shutting down like that its harming your drive every time it slams the read head into the platter. Try a different power supply. For your system, 350 watts and up please. Durring the times it will not start right back up, unplug the power supply...flip the switch on the supply if it has one and replug. Start right back up? power supply. (nods) Word: its slowly destroying your drive. When you fix the problem, do a FULL format and not a quick one. You'll get the errors your creating added to an error map during the format and windows wont use those areas.

Sounds like either your power supply or motherboard is going out, but most likely your power supply because if it was your mobo, you'd be lucky it even ran. I'd check out the power supply, definitely, at least, then the mobo. It may be a couple of other things as well, but those are 2 most likely causes, the power supply being #1.

sounds like your power supply is going out. I'd get it fixed asap. Right now all you are looking at is a $20-30 part.
