Why are so many people moving out of NYC and heading to other states, especially Florida?

Is MEGA rent the biggest reason?

Because the cost of living is so high here. But just wait. As everything moves South because cost of living, rent, etc. is so much cheaper, once all the businesses get down there, the economy down there will shoot up just like it did here, while everything up here will go down because all the businesses have left. 20 years later, all the businesses will be coming back up North and the economy will be ridiculously high again.

Although I do understand people leaving the NYC Metro Area, I can't see myself living anywhere else in this country.

The entire economy is moving South. Not just to Florida, but the Caolinas, Texas, California and the Southwest. Business and industry are moving due to cheaper labor markets and a more business-friendly tax environment.... that means more job growth in the South as compared to the NE.

While NYC may be the financial capital of the US (for now)... even that business is slowly moving south. Bank of America and Wachovia are in the Top 5 banks in the US and both are headquartered in Charlotte. Citi has major operations in Tampa.

haha sorta, i my dad is a real estate investor in nyc and we have vacation homes in florida and like its getting expensive out there too. i mean nowhere as expensive to live in nyc, but like still people are going down there and they try finding similar jobs to that which they had in the city and find out quickly that NYC and FL lifestyle are totally different. Work is more scarce and there aren't as many opportunity as there are in the city. some people actually head back and like they sell their house in down there and come back up here and have to rent, because they sold there house here....its pretty sad.....a time like now, its pays to have stability and a plan.

NYC is growing. Just because rent is high doesn't mean that when poorer people leave, that richer ones do not take their place. NYC has NEVER has more residents then it does now.
