This week a daycare was temporarily shut down because one of the workers was taping a 2 month olds pacifer to his mouth to make him stop crying. Here is a clip of the news article about it.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Human Services says a 4-month-old boy was found in a darkened room in a Jefferson City nursery with a pacifier taping his mouth shut.

Department spokeswoman Michelle Mowery Johnson says the department responded Tuesday to an anonymous complaint that a caregiver in Jefferson City was taping babies’ mouths shut.

An investigator heard muffled whining from the bathroom. The boy’s mouth was taped with two-inch clear packing tape.

The nursery was closed today. It will be served with a suspension order from DHS and a hearing is set for Thursday before an administrative judge.

More details as they develop online and in Thursday’s News Sentinel.

What do you all think about this?

The place where this happened is 25 minutes from where I live . I find this to be very sad and disturbing that people that you trust your children with could do such a thing .

There was also a story on CNN.com earlier this morning about a couple that left their baby at home alone strapped in a stroller while that went to work and out to party .

This is the the reason why I'm a stay at home mom. These kind of things are on the rise. It sicken's me to think of how many other daycare's are out doing things like this to other kids. It I made the laws I say no one is allowed to open a homedaycare without a camara runing during open hours!!! This I think would cut down the problems by a lot so that if a parent is unsure they can watch the video......IS THIS A AT HOME DAYCARE!

Now days you really have to watch out for daycares. You never know which are the good ones and which are the bad ones.

When I was a new, young mother, I put my son in a local daycare that a friend had told me about. My son was only a baby at this time, and not even crawling yet. He started getting respiratory infections and we couldn't get rid of them. He was put on breathing treatments every 2 hours. I walked into the daycare one day and found him on the floor (with older kids running through the baby room) and he was chewing on a toy that I had never seen before. I found some toys in the crib he uses, that didn't belong to me, and some in his diaper bag. I figured out that day why he kept staying sick. It was because he was put in the floor to chew on the same disgusting toys the other kids were chewing on and germs were being passed back and forth. I told the daycare teachers in his room NOT to put him in the floor any longer and to ONLY let him play with the toys I brought him, and to keep those toys in his crib so that no other kids could play with them. Of course, I walked in the next day, he is laying in the floor, and one of his rattles was in the group toy pile. I repeated my instructions and insisted they follow them. The very next day, same thing all over again. I pulled my son out of that daycare so quick they didn't know what to say. As soon as I put him in a private home daycare, the sickness went away.

Sometimes it is only about a paycheck to these people and they don't realize they are protecting our most precious possesions.

My children would no longer be at that daycare. That is not a normal occurrence, I work in daycare and no one would EVER do that! Did you hear about the daycare that duct taped a toddler to a wall...just to see if it would work? It was appalling!

OMG! I worked in daycares for eleven years, and that is the worst thing I've ever heard. What kind of daycare in this day and age doesn't have cameras monitoring the rooms? Every daycare I have worked in or visited in the last five years or so has had cameras in every room. Having cameras keeps bad teachers from getting away with mistreating kids, and good teachers from being wrongly accused of doing things.

I wouldn't let my child stay there for one more day. Just think about HOW many workers actually KNEW this. How many? ALL of them I would say. Horrid. I also heard about this on the news...sickos! I would also press charges for child abuse "IF" that was my child.

Frickin' disgusting. I'd like to raise my own kid that's why daycare isn't in my child's future.

Wow, that's horrible. Although mothers staying home to raise their children is not the answer. Sometimes, day care workers work harder at raising children than their parents do.

edit: Give me all the thumbs downs you want, but it's true. Sure, there are great parents, but not all parents are great.
