What attracted you to that particular breed ?or that individual dog? i have owned a cocker spaniel and labrador retriver mix (adopted from a shelter) i just fell in love with her. i was at petco buying fish food and she was there for one of the special adoption days. she was tiny and precious. her story broke my heart and i knew i had to take her home with me. she had been brought in by a lady who said she couldnt sell her , apparantly she was too big and not cute enough. she was 8 weeks old when i adopted her and she was tiny, she only matured to about 30lbs and very cute. have also owned a rottweiler ,she was a great dog.my friend had to move into an apartment &felt it wasnt fair on her dog to keep her at the apartment. she asked me if i could take care of her for 2 weeks while she was in the process of finding her a home. i took care of her & i couldnt give her back.i couldnt imagine my life without her she just fit rght in as if she had been mine for years.

My first dog was a doberman, I didn't actually pick him because my parents owned him before I was born, they had gotten him given to them because his previous owner had beaten him up. He was a great dog, one day someone jumped the fence and stabbed him after they broke into our neighbours but he survived until he was about 14 years old. My next dog was a Rottweiler I was young when we got her so my parents chose the breed, she was a great guard dog and was calm and friendly to people invited into the house.
I also have had a doberman girl that my parents brought for me she is great, they chose this bread because they like big dogs that will protect you but are also friendly and have a short coat.
The last dog I have owned is a Maltese X Lassa Apso who was given to us for free because he's previous owners were going to a nursing home and had to get rid of him.

My first three dogs growing up were Cocker Spaniels. I still remember picking out the second one when I was 5. He was just a pup and was so adorable. (He was also the only dog purchased and not adopted! We didn't know better in 1986!) He made a wonderful dog! After he passed away my mom and I adopted another Cocker from the Humane Society, she is 13 years old and still runs like a 2 year old! We also adopted a Keeshound/Elkhound/Chow mix pup from the same shelter a year later. Talk about an adorable puff ball! Now that I have a home of my own, I adopted a Pit/Whippet mix and she is the love of my life (don't tell my fiance!). I went to the shelter just to look, and the instant I saw her I knew she was perfect for me. Everyone looked over her because it was evident she had pitbull in her.....if they only knew the sweet dog they overlooked.

My very first dog was a black shep mix. He was the best dog anyone could have asked for, (he passed away last year). He was obediant, good natured and very loving and loyal. I ex found him hiding under a car when he was 4 months old.

My next dog my friend got when he was about 3 months old. He was this cute little white ball of fur. And I had told her that I wanted him if she ever decided to give him up. Well a few weeks later she called me to come get him. I had fallen in love with him the minute I saw him, we connected immediately the first time I was at her house. I searched for days to find out what kind of breed he was and found out he was an American Eskimo! I then got into rescue that dealt with Eskies. I am now the proud owner of 3 Eskies!
Eskies can be a difficult breed as they can be very stubborn and dominant if you let them. They need a strong Alpha owner who can guide them and teach them what they need to know. They are very family orientated, loyal and loving! And make wonderful companions.

Well right now I have a red, standard Dachshund and I love her. She's my pride and joy. Her story is like that of your lab mix. I had wanted a dog really bad and had been searching for a long time. Finally, I heard about a lady who ran a puppy mill. She was going to euthanize some of her dogs and I knew I had to go rescue one of them. I regret not being able to rescue all of them and am upset about that, but at least I was able to save one! I saw her in the back of an outdoor pen where she was sharing a pen with about five other Dachshunds. There was one relatively small bowl of food and one with water and all of them had to share. There were in all about 60 Dachshunds, some mini Schnauzers and poodles, and a 250 lb. Rottweiler (who was as sweet as can be!) and her own personal dogs. I felt so sorry for all of the dogs, as they were all outside in the middle of a Texas summer, with little food and water for all of them to share, and really no shelter. The lady gave my Dachshund to me for free because she felt she wasn't worth anything anymore because she had had her share of pups and it was just one less euthanization bill to her. I don't regret rescuing her one bit! You'd never know she came from such terrible conditions now though! She shares a queen size bed with me, gets all the toys she can handle, gets her own food and water, and gets all the love and attention she could ever want. I had always loved hounds anyways, so I figured why not try a Dachshund and she has turned out to be a loyal, friendly, intelligent, adorable dog that everyone loves!

My first dog was a Shetland Sheepdog named Rex. He wasn't really 'mine' persay .. his owner was all of a sudden 'allergic' to him after 8 years and my mom decided to take him in. I remember when I was leaving for school and would walk over the baby gate .. he would bite the bottom of my pants trying to keep me in the kitchen with him! He was so cute. But, my mom and sister got the sniffles .. and turns out they were allergic to him. So my mom and the previous owner found a good home for him.

My moms old boyfriend (RIP) bought home a Husky one day! Boy was that fun for me. That dog was BEAUTIFUL! She stayed outside when she was here (she visited for the day from his parents house) and we still have the hole she digged in the backyard.

My dad got a Rottie/GSD mix from the ASPCA. His name was Chester and he was the best dog you couldve asked for. He has bad seperation anxiety, which killed him in the end. He hopped over a fence and got caught on the top of it while no one was home .. he punctured a lung and passed on. My stepmom found him when she came home from work. I remember my dad calling me 2 summers ago telling me what happened. I was SO distraught. The next time I went to my fathers house .. it just wasn't the same.

My next dog was a Pekingese. Right now he is 6 years old and a petshop puppy. He is the worst mistake I've ever loved. He has puppymill written ALL over him. But I was 12 and me nor my mother knew about petshops back then. But hes my old man and my first real dog. Nothing will change how much I love his cute little face!

I just got a new pup (shes almost a year old) from a breeder. She is a Dachshund and her name is Casey. I've ALWAYS LOVED Dachshunds and decided to finally get one of my own since I knew I could afford one. I paid good money for her and I know she is healthy.

My next dog is going to be from a shelter. I just hope I can walk through the aisles of dogs and keep myself together! I'm a very emotional person, and just volunteering at the cat shelter gets me teary eyed!
I hope to rescue one cat from my shelter .. and maybe a pit or pit mix (thats good with kitties of course!).

My parents had 2 Doxies when I was very, very young. After they passed away, we got a little mix breed which I did obedience training with in Jr High.

While at obedience classes I discovered the Sheltand Sheepdog! Beautiful, convenient size and VERY VERY smart. My parents bought me a Sheltie pup when I was in High School, and I continued obedience training and trialing.

Smart, smart, easy to train! And biddable. Want to be with, and "do" for and with you! Athletic, great sense of humor, loyal, fun and funny!

Shelties all the way, until 3 years ago. I got a Border Collie pup for my 2nd agility dog. Very similar to a Sheltie, but everything is what I call "so much more so"!!

For me, herding breeds all the way!

German Shepherd mix (Bear) - my parents adopted her from the Humane Society. She was a very shy dog, but just as loving. We had to give her away since the place we moved to didn't allow large dogs.

Golden Retriever (Shadow) - the first purebred dog we've owned since it was a puppy. She was the best family dog & very loyal. We had to put her to sleep +1 yr. ago due to old age. She was part of our family for 15 years.

Pomeranian (Cupcake) - my dad got her for free and ended up giving her to our cousins within a year or two of having her. She was a punk who'd pick on our GR.

Siberian Husky/Alaskan Malamute (Sylar) - we just got her a month and a half ago. We were dogless for about a year after our GR died & we were debating if we should get another GR or another breed. I wanted a dog I could go jogging with & take with me on hiking trails & since these dogs LOVE to exercise we decided on getting one. She's very smart & learns things pretty quick, but she'll put you to the test & push your buttons. This is the first dog we've owned that "talks back" to us & it's just hilarious. She's a great puppy.

My first dog was a little mutt that I had as a teenager. She was a sweet little dog from who I learned a great deal about dogs.

Then I saw and fell in love with afghan hounds and to this day, a gorgeous afghan in full coat, moving the way they do is enough to take my breath away. They will always be my favourite breed.

I also had a pharoah hound which turned out to be a breed I didn't like, and a newfie who was a great dog - loved obedience, pulling, kids and life in general. After that I got my bearded collie who was a really fun dog - everything a beardie is supposed to be - outgoing, bouncy, smart as a whip and a dog with a ton of personality.

Then I got the Irish wolfhound who turned out to be a huge disappointment due to his myriad of problems. By this time, I already had my greyhounds, too - my own 3, as well as bunches of fosters. They are a lot like my afghans, except for their appalling lack of coat, of course!! They're sweet, loving, funny dogs with a great sense of play who like nothing more than to be with you and please. One of my 3 is learning tracking at the age of 10, one likes to "play" obedience, and my little female is that 1 in a million who sticks with me no matter what (so there are places I can take her and let her off leash to play!).
