My male cat (almost a year old) has what my husband and I have come to call toxic poo. He goes to the bathroom in his litter box and we can smell it across the house. He eats Purina Kitten Chow and drinks plenty of water. Is it what he is eating? Or is it just him?

He has had "toxic poo" since he was a baby. He is not an outside cat so no grass could have been eaten.

Have you seen a vet? Parasites can cause cats and kittens poop to be very stinky. That food is also of very poor quality so it certainly doesn't help.

What goes in is going to affect what comes out.

Do you give him milk? That can digest very poorly (it has a lot of sugars in it) and can cause toxic farts and poop. Fish has that affect also.

Some foods just don't seem to work well with certain cat's digestions. Can you switch to a different kitten food and see what the results are after a week? If the smell tones down then you'll know it was the Purina.

Does he cover his droppings? One of my cats has yet to do that and it can permeate the entire house. If he's close to a year old, he may be ready for adult cat food. I feed Purina Cat Chow with no problems. I have noticed that my cats' leavings will have extra "hang time" when they're under stress or are having gastrointestinal issues.

Try switching him to adult food slowly and see if the situation improves. After a week or two, if it still stinks to high heaven, you may want your vet to take a peek at him to be sure there isn't something going on. Of course, if he starts acting abnormally at any time, bring him to the vet right away (stops eating or drinking, listless, etc.).

my cat has had this problem occasionally I think its the same as humans some smell worse than others try like febreeze or neutra-air or even baking soda in the litter. If he's a year old he could go to regular cat chow.

It could be both. Have a sample of his poo tested for intestinal parasites, and while you're at it change his food over slowly to adult food. The protein content in the kitten chow might be too rich for him now that hes an adult.

It was probably a mouse he ate or some grass because Purina is a good brand. It will start to smell normal eventually.

Try using a different brand of cat litter, maybe a more absorborant one that will absorb smells. Or you can get litter freshners, some cats don't like them but mine doesnt mind!
