Long question, I will try to keep the answer brief, but please do bear with me. I am agnostic. Reality is that there is no OBJECTIVE proof that ANY "god" does or does not exist. That settles the question of "knowledge". Atheism and all religions are matters of "belief", which is purely subjective. When you build your worldview around subjective beliefs, be they political, religious, philosophical, whatever, then any rival belief could potentially threaten your entire worldview and sense of self and for some people, they cannot accept that others do not share their exact same worldview. It means theirs might just be "wrong", the idea that "different" is NOT a question of right and wrong, it is just a question of a different worldview does not seem to fit into their concept of a "black/white, true/false only" world. My neighbors are a non-attending Methodist and a "lapsed" Catholic. My girlfriend is Christian but she only goes to church because I do (the church is my community/family, they accept that I do not do dogma). I have known Jews, Muslims, one gentleman I worked with on Tuesday's election is a Deist leaning towards agnosticism (and, as an agnostic, I sorta lean towards the idea of a Self-conscious Universe). If we truly faced reality, however, the fact that we all have different beliefs/worldviews does not affect the fact that I like these people and that their worldview does not make mine "wrong" any more than I think what I believe makes their worldview "wrong". Live your life in love and respect for your fellow mankind and the afterlife, if any, will take care of itself. Blessings on your Journey!

I'm not bothered if people call me an atheist though I don't care to define myself by what I DON'T believe in. I'm a humanist and believe that this is the only life we have, the only world we can know and that morality is founded in human nature and experience. We don't need a god to be good.

Don't base everything off one poll. The questions come here pretty rapidly. You might get very different results 3 hours from now.

b) Jewish
But you picked a bad day for a survey, it's a Jewish holiday so the Jews are going to be under represented.
