Amoxicillin Cats

I have never noticed any of my cats getting sleepy from amoxicillin. Some people report that it can decrease appetite or cause stomach upset. That hasn't happened with mine either.

The anitbiotic is frequently given when a cat has an upper respiratory infection. Though the infection is viral and the anitibiotic won't help it it can prevent a secondary bacterial infection like pneumonia.

I am sure PetSmart employs licensed veterinarians. I prefer to use a vet clinic with a number of vets who know my cats well and if PetSmart is the most available help for your cat it should be just fine.

Well I myself have never heard of amoxicillin being given to a cat before. But, the only thing I can say is that maybe it is working on the infection like it should, but the side effects could make your cat sleepy. I don't think this would hurt the cat if you got it from PetSmart.

If you think about it the should not be able to give your cat something if it's not the right thing. I would trust there opinion. If you don't then call them and ask to speak to the main veterinarian in charge.

Yes Pet Smart is good. No Amoxicillin does not make you sleepy. This is an antibiotic, not a sedative. Your cat may be sleeping because the illness itself and your cats body working over time trying to heal itself is making your kitty tired. Plus cats sleep a lot anyway. :-) Hope this helped.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the penicillin family commonly used on both people and animals. It should make neither very sleepy. If your cat is sleepy, it is likely because its body is busy fighting off the infection.

The vet service inside most PetSmarts is Banford, and I have not heard anything negative.

The antibiotic you were prescribed for your cat is the most common one prescribed. Be sure to give your cat the entire prescribed dose even if your cat seems fine before the medicine runs out.

Some people have given their cat a bit of yogurt when they have their cat on antibiotics to help restore the normal bacteria (friendly bacteria) to the digestive tract to reduce diarrhea possibilities.

My cats have had to be on antibiotics so rarely that I cannot recall if it made them sleepy or not. But then, it is hard to compare 23 hours of normal sleep per day with even more. LOL

It's a good common antibiotic but it will make most cats sleepy.
However it also makes a certain number of cats so nauseous and sick to their stomach that they can't eat or drink--if yours doesn't eat within 12 hours, call the vet and get a different antibiotic so the nausea can stop.
