It is an American slang for a frank discussion on sex.

It comes from the old song "Birds do it, Bees, do it, why don't we do it, that's the glory of, that's the story of love." The idea here is you are teaching the how to "do it" part. So when you ask you teachers about the birds and the bees you are asking them how do you have sex and that is a subject that can't be discussed in most schools without getting an angry school board and parents come looking for that teacher with a hangman's noose. They may not hang the teacher, but they will certainly find cause to fire them.

The birds and the bees is just a way of saying sex. It's the talk your parents have with you as a "kid" to tell you about sex.
