I was at a pool recently and saw a group of about 6 mothers and kids who were "chicken fighting". I think it was a family, cousins, aunts...and the kids were about 9 or 10, mainly boys. After a while of the kids fighting on the mom's shoulders, one of the ladies laughed and said that it was their turn now. It was a joke, but they started trying it. I was amazed how many of the kids could actually lift the women on their shoulders! Most of the women were at least twice the size of the kids, but some of the kids could lift most of the women. There was a girl who could not lift anyone, and one heavier woman who nobody could lift, but overall, it was very surprising. It seemed that a couple of the shorter kids actually had more luck! The kids did not look to be unusually big, and the women were not particularly thin, except for one.
Is this unusual for kids to be able to do this? Did I see something amazing, or does this happen often?

Silly, there is weightlessness in water, that's why the shorter kids appeared stronger. Being shorter made more of the weight under water and therefore easier to lift.

You know the gravity level is much lower underwater. They were just not as heavy.
