I may only be in 8th grade, but I have very big plans for my future! I plan to open a restaurant when I am older. I plan to call it Just Desserts. And as you probably have guesses, it will only serve desserts. It isn't exactly going to be a bakery though. But I need a little help. How should I plan oppening it. I am already going to have my friends taste test my recipes, but what else can I do to make sure it could be succsessful enough that it may even start a chain?

I am sooooo sorry, but I didn't know the name was already taken so name ideas might help too!

Not to burst your bubble but "Just Desserts" is already taken.

You need to come up with a business plan which addresses cost, location, clietele and how you plan to market your business.

Aside from culinary training (which helps...), learning about business is crucial. Keep an open mind to either a business degree or something of the sort. The university I attended had a "hotel, restaurant and tourism management" program, so I'm sure others have the same.

In the mean time, (when you are old enough), you can start getting a feel for the business aspect by working in a restaurant.

Get some work experience in a restaurant first, even if it's just waiting tables - chances are even if you are the owner you will be doing that for a long time anyway.

Talk to other restaurant owners - you'll find most are very helpful if you are serious.

Don't be put off by anyones negativity. If you've got dreams - chase them, but be realistic. I chased my dream of owning a restaurant (here in the UK) and lost over £45,000 (thats about $90,000). But I'm still glad I tried. Just wish I'd thought it through a bit more.

I've written a book (Burnt!) about my experinces and there are plenty of other books out there - read up on the subject as much as you can.

Best of luck!

There is a place with a similar concept in San Diego CA called Extraordinary Desserts. Maybe you can contact the owner when you are older and get some advice.

Here's the website. Check it out...

Most areas have unique regional eating places, unluckily in a vacationer the town they cater to travelers so don't care approximately unhealthy provider and meals considering that they recognise they are going to now not have go back viewers. So almost always and unluckily we move to chain eating places. With a couple of exceptions it's chains. I want it might be yet another means.
