ok, don't worry. French people mostly know english but there are some who are snobish and refuse to speak english. It will only take you 5 or 6 months to learn enough to get by and understand quite a bit. To speak and understand everything only a year in total french emmersion. The only thing you will find alot of difficulty with will be writing in french.

Hi, I lived in france for four years. I didnt move on any particular path to be trained french, I simply picked it up in tuition. All french faculties (lycees) now supply french classes to english folks. It's probably referred to as a "greta" and it does not fee something. I am now fluent in french but it surely does not take four years to decide upon up, simply maintain chatting to locals and it will have to take approximately 6 months earlier than you'll keep a truly dialog! well good fortune!

Well parisians are really accomodating to English-speakers, a great deal of them know english. It will be hard but if you had to live anywhere in the country Paris is the best to learn it. The south would be the hardest, they don't speak as much english.

What a chance of a lifetime to move to Paris at 16! I'm envious. Don't worry one bit: you'll pick up French quickly. Listen to the radio, read, and watch TV as much as you can. That helps. You'll have a wonderful time. Bonne chance!

As you are quite young you will probably learn quite a bit of French in two or three months. You may not find Parisians are so helpful as you imagine!

I think it would take you about six monthes to learn at least common phrase of what they mean. Thats what happen to a lot of Mexican students at my school who know no english. They pick up a lot within the first year.
