Prayer is different for everyone & you will find you will get as many different answers as people to this question. Like batgirl I simply communicate, talking with God, the Spirit, or what ever may happen to be your name for God. It has just been what I have done since a small child, although I have found that my communication has changed & evolved thru the years. For me, I feel my connection to God & therefore all things best when I am in gratitude, & it is the greatest form of prayer. Our Father already knows our hearts, what he desires most is to know his Son has recieved his message, his love, & gratitude is the one way this is done. When we are grateful the circuit between Father & Son is complete. I do in times of stress & indecision find myself "asking" for things, it is human nature. But I have to remember that I have really been given everything that is real, & in those times what I really need is to have my perception shifted back from a state of lack. The natural outcome of consistant prayer is a conscious contact, a state in which the Mystics of all Faiths eventually find themseves, when the Father becomes My Beloved. How do you learn to pray, just start. There are no wrong starting places. The learning is in the doing. Thank you, you always have wonderful questions. (((HUG)))

I used to recoil from the word prayer because growing up I never got to decide how to pray or what I should pray about. I was being told to say this prayer and memorize that one.
But now, I see prayer as mindfulness, and in truth, I could pray without ceasing. I am not there yet, but I will go around during the day focusing on the wonders of my life and feeling a deep sense of gratitude. When I hear that someone is ill, I meditate/pray for them to regain their health. I have found that being in a state of gratitude for even the tiniest things, has helped me create a deeper spiritual experience.

Prayer should be like breathing. First thing I do when i wake at 6am is pray. I pray throughout the day, and at the end of the day I bring all my cares and concerns to God, I pray that His Kingdom will come, that all suffering will be brought to an end, I pray for my wife, my children, my brothers and sisters, and I pray for quietness and rest, and for all the cares and illnesses that my friends suffer from, I pray for all nations, all animals, everything, everybody. The Kingdom of God will come on this earth, and we shall be quite unable to recognise all the changes. But it will come ...

Just relax body and mind, close eyes, relax further, sink to heart with love and a smile.

Praying just for the sake of praying does wonders.

keep smiling

same as you, don't think there is a right way or wrong way as practises may vary from church to church to temple to synagogue and so on, I do not follow any organised religion because I believe in us (ie good and bad inside us try to use the good and harmonise with nature itself) when in difficulty or pain I tend to call on my mother - she has been gone a very long time so I guess I am not expecting an answer!

Sometimes I see Deity as the "Management of the Universe". I get myself in quiet, relaxing place, and write/think/speak out-loud a "memo" to them regarding the things which I believe they can help others/myself with.

I don't.

Nothing fails like prayer:

Prayer Does Not Work. Sorry.
Once again, it's all in your mind..

"In a long-awaited comprehensive scientific study on the effects of intercessory prayer on the health and recovery of 1,802 patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery in six different hospitals, prayers offered by strangers had no effect. In fact, contrary to common belief, patients who knew they were being prayed for had a higher rate of post-operative complications such as abnormal heart rhythms, possibly the result of anxiety caused by learning that they were being prayed for and thus their condition was more serious than anticipated."

Just get quiet. Calm and clear any thoughts from your head. Start thanking God for anything large or small He's done for you. Then if you have any requests, ask for it last. Butalways come to the throne with praise and thanksgiving to God first.

You don't need to ask God for stuff.

Research all the scriptures of the world. Search out the truth. Understand it better and better. Internalize it. That is prayer.

REALLY, its like riding a bike..
YOU never forget...and when you need
it the most, it will be there for YOU...

I thought I also forgot about 10 years ago, and
when I started to pray, it just came gushing out...I was amazed...as will YOU be.
