This is a kettle of worms that a Saint would get in trouble over the answer. In my humble opinion, (no yelling, i'm allowed my opinion) there is nothing wrong with a swat on the behind to get a child's attention when they need it provided it isn't overdone, but that has nothing to do with black or white. I think that is a bigger part of your question. I believe that so many white women have been lumped into the "soccer mom" category who have time to drive their children everywhere, devote themselves to PTA, discussion groups etc (i wasn't one of these), black mothers were usually considered single hard working mom's with enough on their minds without problems from her childrens behavior. It isn't right, but that is my opinion and since i'm a middle aged white single mother of 3 adult daughters, I've earned my opinion.

Please give me an example. Discipline in the form of hitting is different from abuse. I don't know any Black person personally who would condone abuse from any parent, but most would encourage spanking or "whipping" a fleshy part of the body. In fact, they get frustrated when they see White parents coddle their children and wish they would just go ahead and swat them.

It all depends on who you are and where you come from. I don't understand why it is seen two different ways but one big factor is the media.

This perception on your part is WRONG. As for children,I think we just want all parents to be in control of their children's behavior.

I didn't know that perception of abuse of children was divided along racial lines.

idk really but i mean to black people (I'm black) it's considered discipline. but it's what every or how that person or parent was brought up.it's not really a race thing.
