Good question and I'm not 100% sure of the answer but I think you could still get samanella (sp?) from the runny yolk of a tainted egg. I have to say, I'm greatful it's not a big issue where I live as I make caesar salad dressing from scratch and I frequently use raw yolks.....without any problem.

It is very rare for any eggs to have salmonella contamination. So first off it would be really hard to catch it from a properly refrigerated egg.
There are many membranes within the egg. So if salmonella entered an egg via the shell, it would be in the white before the yolk. The membrane around the yolk would protect it.
I think this is a good question. I do not really know the answer other than the observations I've offered.
I always wash the outside of my eggs before I use them just to limit the possibility of anything from the shell getting into the stuff I am cooking.

Technically, an over-easy egg (runny yolk) can give you food poisoning too. Most restaurant menus have a disclaimer on the bottom that warn about eating undercooked eggs and meat.
The reason you don't get sick is that the chances of getting sick from a raw egg is very low. A lot is being done at the packaging plants to reduce that risk, but if you do get a bad egg, an over-easy egg will get you sick just as a raw egg would.

There is a very slight possibility that you can ingest salmonella bacteria from eggs, usually from the membrane next to the shell. You can get salmonella from the runny yolks, but you've probably got a better chance of being struck by lightening.
So, eating raw eggs can give you salmonella, but it is very rare, and the fresher the eggs, the less likely any salmonella will be present.
If you're worried about it, you can get pasturized in the shell raw eggs.

generally you can only get sick from raw eggs only if the parasite is on the shell, there are no parasites inside the shell. so to stay safe( if your going to use raw egg in something) wash the egg in soapy water before cracking it. or you could buy pasteurized eggs! you also have to make sure the egg has no cracks on it and you use it immediately after cracking it, without it sitting around.
having an egg with a runny yolk generally won't make you sick because of the points i made above... also, when you cook an egg sunny side up you are elevating the temperature of the egg while cooking it. egg whites cook faster then egg yolk, so if you cook it at the right temp for long enough you can heat the yolk long enough to kill any germs and still keep it runny!

Eating raw eggs will not give you food poisoning. It's a bit more complicated than that.

Eating raw eggs won't give you food poisoning unless it is expired or has not been properly handled.

an over easy egg is heated so the heat killes all the germs and bad stuff that might be in it
