Edited 8:40pm Actually I am a fan of all five of these photographers. I have copies of biographies of them in my personal library. I'll stay with my suggestion of Smith.
W. Eugene Smith. His classic "Walk To Paradise Garden" was the last photograph at the end of Steichen's exhibit and book, "The Family of Man".
Plus Smith's work in the Japanese fishing village of Minamata produced numerous powerful images, a book, and legal action against the company responsible for poisoning the bay where the village fished.
