Other than being in a war zone in Vietnam for 364 days and my adrenal glands for ever losing their ability to turn off, the most frightening was about 20 years ago although I wasn't frightened, per se.
I was driving at about 160 kmh (99 mph) between Nyngan and Bourke along a fairly straight road.
As I came round a slight corner I saw five horses on the right side of the road; they decided to walk to the left - I still hadn't taken my foot off the gas.
The last one decided he wanted to park on the blacktop; there was 50 metres of dirt either side of the road but I knew if I touched that I'd lose what little control I had.
I always drive with the belt on; I pushed my self as far back into my seat as far as possible with my head into the head rest, arms straight, my foot on the brake and *wack*
I hit the horse and came to a sudden stop from about 140 kmh (about 4 metres per second); I measured the black rubber on the road afterwards - 85 metres.
The horse died instantly - I got a little scratch on my hand as I got outa the wreck.

Flying transatlantic when the plane 'hit' low pressure and dropped like a stone ..
Realising there was nothing I could do, I decided to return to my drink, but this now looked like a lava lamp. I chased the drink around for what seemed ages (it passed the time), when we hit pressure again, it did make a thump on the aircraft and my drink splashed all over me.
Apparently we fell 10,000 feet. Nobody screamed. It was very weird.

I fell down a cliff in the Lake District when I was younger. Strangely enough I knew i wasn't going to die, it was like a strong feeling that this wasn't my time. I didn't even break a bone, just cuts and bruises, but i'll never forget that horrible shock feeling when i slipped and realised i was falling.
Obviously i did survive!

Meeting someone from The Dark Side. I was momentarily terrified, then I surrounded myself with light and knew I was safe.

Being told you have cancer.
That was 4 years ago. I didn't want to die.
I was lucky they caught it early.
I am so grateful of every new day - it has put my life into perspective.
