Here's the issue: 2 years ago, we had an ice storm here in Portland (Ore.). I totalled my van on Portland's icy roads (no car insurance btw) and haven't been able to use it since. It has deteriorated since then naturally, and is parked at a buddy's house. The problem is, my homeboy's sister - who lives with him and his pops - is getting pissy because it is parked there. I feel where she's coming from and want to send it off to rot in the junk yard. I still owe on it though: I have roughly 3K to pay off until it's mine. That's not a lot of $$$ but I'd like to get rid of it ASAP. If I tried to junk it or sell it off (for a very low price of course), would I have to present a deed/title? I won't be able to present a deed/title until I pay it off. If I park it in the street it will get towed and I'll have to pay a lot of money. I just want to get rid of it. I WILL pay it off, of course, because I don't want a negative credit rating. Any suggestions?

Pay it off then get a title so you can legally junk it or donate to one of those free pick-up services advertised locally.

Until you make the last payment, you don't own it, the credit company does. So you can't get rid of it, until you own it. You are also required to carry insurnace on it until it is paid off. Don't let the credit company know that it doesn't have insurance. Borrow the money against some other assets that you may have. Pay off the loan and then get a lien release against the title and take it down to the DMV or county clerks office and have the lien released off the title and then you can do with it what you want.\\good luck

Depends on the year, In Virginia if it is above a 1990, there is no need for a title, the salvage yard will crush it, but a junk car is only paying about $150.00 right now, if I can make a suggestion try to sell it to a junk yard for parts, probally better money.

I can't see anyone buying a junk car when you cannot produce the title. Even a junkyard needs the title to purchase it from you.

Call your nearest junkyard and see what they say. You may be able to junk it and get some money, but I'm sure you'll still have to pay it off. Also contact your bank or loan agency to see their point of view.

The thing I suggest would be to get a loan (vacation, home renovation, etc) and pay off the car so you can sell or part it out. From those procedes you can put that towards your loan, and continue to pay it off as normal.

Sorry, no junk yard is going to buy your car, or even haul it off to their yard without getting the title on it. Don't know what to tell you to do about the car.

junkyards won't take it without a tittle usually. i had an 84 civic and i turned it in to a scrap metal place. they told me that if cut the vehicle up in to small enough pieces that they would accept it without the tittle. so i took my sawzall and cut that ***** up like it was my ex-wife. good luck and if you ever run into someone named maria.. run away, far away!
