It's simple, really--the government doesn't care, and the vets are NOT a priority--they are seen as expendable.

I go to the local VA hospital,it's not a large one. When I do it's easy to see about a hundred fellow vets that seem content with the efforts being made. They have a nursing home that is up to date. Really I've been taken better care of their than civilian hospitals.
Like any government operation though, Social Security, IRS you have matters that don't get done right, then dare I mention the few who you cant make happy no matter what.
The worse thing in my humble opinion is the amputees and disabled, what can you do for them that would compensate them for the sacrifice and return them to as normal a lifestyle as possible. It is something that communities and fellow former and active service members should consider not relying solely on the government to take care of and make efforts to help/assist those coming home

Not right? But very historical. You keep us in a glass box that says break only in time of need. When the need is over, back into the box so you can live in your little Utopia. Not you, personally, but collectively.
Think about this. Why would a competent doctor or nurse work for the governent. A good doctor can make more money in one operation then what one of these people make in a year.
'From what I have seen, my fellow soldiers etc, have gotten frustrated with the incompetence and lies of the the VA that we walk and get private care, if we can afford it.

Because America has become a very ungrateful society. They want this people when they want freedom, but they don't want to take care of them when they need us. You're right, it's very sad! My dad is a disabled veteran and we have to jump through hoops to get all his benefits. My husband is in the Air Force right now. I have to wonder when he's 80 will it be even worse.

Wait until the head trauma cases hit the streets.
They will be treated like dogs.
People will write the city mayor and congress and local police chief ....
Gotta get those ragged people off the streets.
Why do we have to look at those bums?
Thats right....bums.
My conservative republican brother in Arizona will be leading the charge.
Busted up and broken down is not as romantic as young strong armed to the teeth wearing those cool shades.
This country is gonna do them like they do all the other vets.
The will be unsightly.....
They will be eyesores....
They will moved along.
why...
a. it costs money
b. they have no power
add: Gunner...best friend vet has in Washington State is Patty Murray....a Democrat.
The Republicans are the people that want to close VA facilities. If they had their way a vet would have to travel 100 miles to see Va doctor.

I don't agree that our vets are improperly cared for. What I do believe is VA care is bare bones. It is an agency of the government, and frankly, the government isn't very efficient when it comes to TLC.
What you are seeing when you talk about the VA, is a sampling of what universal health care will be like if that brain-dead Hillary ever gets into office.

Historically the arm forces number one interest is the active duty personnel. Not because bias towards retiree folks but to keep the force healthy.
VA hospitals are working hard to provide service to the vets.
What the VA needs is good quality health care personnel that really cares about our vets. And this is hard to do.
I hope this helps dispel prejudices directed towards the best government of the world. The USA.

It's obvious, isn't it? All those blasted Liberals/Conservatives/Nazis in the Republican/Democratic/Fish Party don't support our troops.

Or on a more serious note, it'd cost way more money. Nobody wants to pay more taxes or divert money from a particular budget that benefits them. After all, people hardly consider "wounded" as being a casualty these days, they care only for the dead.

You get treated poorly while you serve, and people still serve 20 years. So why should they change just because they get out or retire? Change will only happen if it is voice long enough and loud enough. How would you change it, and what steps are you going to take to make that happen?

I wish I knew. Did we really treat them THIS badly before 2000 -- besides Vietnam, I mean?
The people who think war is neat don't think about what happens after the people they sent into war come home with horrific injuries. It seems the people most eager to send soldiers to war have never been to war themselves, so they clearly have no idea of what soldiers go through when they get home.

Opra had a bunch of soldiers on her program that got sick from the war. The anthrax shots and depleted uranium is screwing them up. The VA said, not our fault and there is no connection. Now that is sad!
