seems like a more experience would be a better idea before setting a guy loose at talledega.

I think it's fine that Jacques Villeneuve or anyone else that a team owner wants gets an opportunity in NASCAR. I know JV raced the truck race and did a lot of COT testing, but I think Talledega is just not the right place for anyone's 1st race. Regardless of experience in driving, he's still a rookie in NASCAR. It's to easy for the 'big one' to happen there and I'm sure he's not made many drafting partners yet. It's not fair to him or the chase competitors for him to start here.

Wow...some of you really dont think, or know nothing about the rules of Nascar. Yes the guy is a proven champ...no doubt about that. Yes the guy has talent...no doubt there either. How many STOCK CARS has he driven on a SUPERSPEEDWAY at nearly 200MPH???? NONE!!! He has no experience with this. My big problem as well is Nascar has rules put in place that prevent drivers with lack of testing in a stock car at these large tracks from driving there without a set amount of testing time. He has yet to meet those requirements. But for some reason they are bending that rule for him. So for those of you griping that people are making a big deal of it because he is foreign....BS! I think its the opposite...Nascar is allowing him to race despite the rules and regulations because he is foreign and it helps their image and diversity. When he goes into the race an kills someone cause he doesnt know what he is doing out there....maybe this kind of thing wont happen again.

Absolutely not. Talladega is a track where a lot of drafting is required. Those cars are packed real close together at high speeds and the wind off of other cars can upset the cars next to it causing wrecks. That track requires a lot of respect and skill a dn attention to keep from wrecking at those speeds. This being his first time in a Nascar race is a bad idea at a high speed track based on the conditions I made earlier in this statement. Doing it also in a "Chase" event to me is unacceptable and a bad call by Nascar. It allows an inexperienced driver to come in and take out certain chase contenders.

NASCAR has some strange procedures. It kinda makes you wonder where the future of NASCAR is going. At least they got him driving a Toyota, if that's any consolation. I don't think it's a good idea, maybe NASCAR is a little sadistic. Either way it's racing competition. But they shouldn't introduce new drivers during a cup race. They made the competition hard enough through introduction of new rules, they shouldn't create a situation that is disruptive to the last ten races.

If he wrecks Gordon and Johnson I'll join his fan club!

He is undoubtedly a talented driver and proven he knows what he is doing behind the wheel. At Indy the cars go about 30-40 mph faster and run just as close, so I don't see the problem!

That being said I would be shocked to see him running up in the pack much. Plate races are a great time to gain seat time! Stay in line and hang on to the draft! It would surprise me to hear NAZI-car agreed if he would follow the pack. If he goes out their dreaming of winning it would be a recipe for disaster! But like I said if he gets Gordon and/or Johnson I'm all in favor of that!

I think he probably can handle it. I have been a Villeneuve fan from his first year in the Indy cars and am thrilled he's back behind the wheel. This one of the few remaining races I will be watching so if Kirk Shelberdine could make the race along with Jacques I will be a happy fellow.

I think Jacques will be just fine he was down in talladega doing alot of testing with the COT..This guy is great I saw him race in F1, he was young and a real brat, he is older and wiser now.. The only thing I worry about is I hope he and Juan Pablo respect each other, they had several not so sportsmanlike incidents in F1... Now if he wrecks Dale Jr, everyone better duck as the beer cans will be flying...I'm sure he will get some redneck boos in talladega...It will take more than boos to scare Jacques away...

No,no,no. Not smart at all. If he finishes, I will be surprised. If he can not wreck anyone else when he gets taken out, I will be relieved. There is way too much on the line to let a rookie start his first race at Talladega during the championship run. How hoppin' mad is Tony Stewart going to be if he gets hit by Villeneuve at any point during the race, and rightly so? Talladega eats rookies and spits them out. First start should be anywhere else.

I have no problem with the F1 and other series drivers coming into NASCAR but I wouldn't want his first race to be at a Superspeedway because all it takes is a little bump and his "friendship" with the other drivers is shot. He would be better off starting his career at a Texas or a Kansas ("cookie cutter" track) but then again if he thinks he can handle it then let him go.
