We have up to 3 guitars, bass, 2 sets of drums, 2 keyboards, 3 lead singers and 6 background singers - and we can get loud. We lift up the name of Jesus and sing His praises. We could do the same with just one guitar and singer - it's about lifting up Jesus. We are careful not to exalt ourselves or to make it about us - it's about Jesus or we don't do it.
Despite an earlier answer, CCM is not as selfish as some think. Some guy even wrote a whole book about the alleged ills of CCM, one of his points being that the words could be about anything. I know I could find some old hymns which could be blamed likewise. Much of CCM does glorify the Lord, exalting the Name of Jesus.
The scriptures talk about playing loud, playing skillfully, making a joyful noise, using various instruments - all to lift up and praise the name of the Lord.

Yes. Or at least, there is supposed to be.
WORSHIP songs are supposed to be God-directed. That's why they are "worship." So they should be saying, "How great is my God and worthy is His name" and they should be "Praise and glory to our God" and "I love You, Lord" and stuff like that.
CCM songs are ENTERTAINMENT. They can be about anything -- relationships, money, power, frustration, seeking God, history, biographies, whatever. They're supposed to inspire you, so they are directed to you (or all listeners, really), not God. Some CCM albums include songs directed to God, but as a genre, that's not a mandatory.
Oh, and if you don't know how to tell the difference between a worship song and any other kind of song, your pastor ought to put down his guitar more often and provide some competent teaching so his congregation isn't so confused. He's being lazy, and he's probably filling what is supposed to be your "worship" time with a whole bunch of songs that aren't God-directed at all. I've seen that zillions of times, and it's always wrong.

I went to a Pentecostal church for a while and they were the best choir/band I have ever heard. It blew me away the first time I heard them. (They also had drums and guitars.) I swear every person in that church could play an instrument. They put half the recording artists we have right now to shame. lol

It doesn't matter what the music sounds like as long as it does what it's supposed to. Many young people didn't attend church during the 60's & 70's because the music reminded us of funeral music. It was depressing. Now the music is so much like rock n roll that the older people don't like their old churches anymore! I guess you can't make everyone happy.
