My friend just called from his commode. It didn't seem right.

Man code states that you tell the other party something along the lines of "Hey man/lady friend/mom, I got some business to take care of. I'll call ya right back. Late".

Friend broke man code.
Man code is sacred.
Friend = sinner

Oh wait, wrong category. Er, or is it? Ehhhhhhhhh.

Depends.

If I'm in a public restroom, just freshening my makeup to kill time before an event or something, yes. In fact, from what I've seen, it's more acceptable to call from the restroom than in function building hallways or gathering areas. It's also more private; if any, only a few people are around, as opposed to possibly more than one hundred.

But if I'm actually going to the bathroom, HELL NO. If the person on the other end of the line were to know of this, I'd imagine they'd feel quite uncomfortable; hell, even I'd feel uncomfortable calling them.

Lol. This reminds me of something...as a student, some of my teachers often used microphones, with speakers set into the ceilings. [[The mikes were cordless.]] The reception was great; the microphones would transmit from anywhere in the building or on the grounds. And one day, a teacher left a paraprofessional to look after the class while she used the restroom.

She forgot to turn off the microphone.

Well, first of all, not in a public restroom.
This is a sometimes yes, sometimes no situation.
There are a few people that I would talk to on the phone...my mother, my best friend, my live in boyfriend. But these are all people that I would talk to not on the phone while in the bathroom (does that make sense?).
If it were anyone else, then no, I would not talk on the phone while in the restroom.

Good question! I have done it before; usually if I was already on the phone with the person prior to having to use the bathroom. But it all depends on who I am talking to, and whether I am doing #1 or #2!

Funny story: I was actually on the phone with my best (male) friend the other night, and I had to pee really bad. I mean, REALLY bad. So I went into the bathroom and plopped down and did my business, and in the course of doing so, I "let one." I honestly had no idea that was coming, and my friend asked me incredulously, "Are you taking a s@#t?!" I couldn't say ANYTHING. I was a little embarrassed, but I got over it when I remembered that he's actually called me while he was paying his dues to the porcelain god to "keep him company." He got over it when I reminded him of this.

I've only done this with my ex boyfriend and only when I was at home. I'd never do it in a public restroom because the person in the next stall would think I was crazy.

No, as I don't have an extension phone in my commode room.

I can tell that "Absteal" doesn't get out much since I see people constantly using their cellphones in public bathrooms these days.

Only if it an extreme emergency. Is the call SO important that you have to talk and do you business at the same time? Geez, it does not take that long to do what you have to do!
Plus it's gross and very yucky. The receiving end can hear you flushing!

I don't, and I think it is gross, but my family members do it all the time to me - they don't even let on 'til I hear a loud flush in the background, it's so annoying! It seems like such a basic obvious principle of etiquette yet people act like it's totally normal.. no, I do not want to keep you entertained while you pee! Ugh!

Nope.....and if I'm talking to someone and find out their using the restroom I hang up.

I don't care to share bathroom time.

My boss (ex boss) rang me once and I could actually hear him peeing! There was also the characteristic bathroom echo. It WAS early in the morning, but he could've waited till he'd finished before ringing. He DID have a sense of humour though. He was a great boss, actually. Lots of fun.
