When you sneak down to the fridge at night you always take food from the fridge not the freezer. It saves you putting the kitchen light on.Thought full of the manufacturers don't you think?

A lot of freezers now come with light bulbs, but I'm assuming that older and/or cheaper models do not have them for several reasons:

A bulb in a freezer isn't really energy efficient. A light produces heat, and this could interfere with the cooling process of the freezer, meaning it would have to work harder to cool the bulb down if the door was open for a while.

A cheaper light might not be able to stand the low temperature and possibly burst, which would be a safety hazard where food is concerned.

Compared to a fridge, a light isn't as practical in a freezer. The food in a fridge is designed for easy access (fresh), and a fridge is opened considerably more than a freezer.
It is quite common to grab a ready-to-eat midnight snack from the fridge, but people seldom cook in the dark, so a freezer light would have little use.

Finally, on an aesthetic level, food looks more appealing in a lit fridge, and fresh produce sells much faster than frozen, so that might explain why there's a light in the fridge in the first place.

Call me cheap but I've never had a light in my freezer, yet somehow I don't think I've missed out in life. Personally, I think a freezer light is pointless.

I was gonna say how often do you go into the freezer for a late night glass of milk...but then I thought I would much rather go into the freezer for a late night milkshake if only there was a DAMn light in there!

OK I just want to say that 3 years ago I bought a NEW fridge on the nicer side and it does not have a light and come to think of it I have never seen anyone elses with one so...to those of you that said yours must be really ol or cheap or broke.......pleeeeezzz come on now!

Because the bulb would blow in the freezer or the mice find the freezer too cold lol

A freezer with a light would be boring. Who wants to search for food without that fear factor??

Why is there a light at the end of the tunnel and there are no freezers there?

Ha, ha, ha.....Good question!

Maybe it would burst in the coldness.

Even though the other poster has a light, I have never had a light in any of our freezers.

Depends on the freezer. I guess the bulb would not survive sub zero temperatures.
