No. Absolutely not.

Civil debts are not a criminal matter (unless they can prove fraud, and it's next to impossible). Many times, these collection agents will scare the heck out of you by threatening to have you arrested. Guess what? If you can prove they said that then you can sue THEM for violating the Fair Debt Collections Act!

I suggest you take the time to read the link below and understand your right, and what collection agents are allowed to do.

No, debt is a civil mather. You cannot be arrested for not paying your bill. The worst that can happen to you is that your creditors go to court and get a cvil jugment against you. They can then garnish your wages, put liens on your assets, and seize your bank accounts but, they cannot put you in jail.

You can be sued for non payment. Your work check may be garnished. I don`t know of anyone who was jailed for it.
This is a state law. I know of several people who simply moved out of state to illiminate the risk of being sued or garnishement. I do hear of persons doing time for non payment of Federal Taxes. There is no time limitation on Federal Taxes, as there is on some other crimes (Like bank robbery)!

Depends on who you owe. Uncle Sam (the government) doesn't like people who don't pay their taxes, so they put them in jail. Everybody else has to take you to court, then give you multiple chances to pay. If that doesn't work they take the item back or put liens on you so you will pay. They rarely are able to put a person in jail though.

It depends who you owe the money to, believe it or not. If you owe taxes you can be charged criminally and therefore arrested. Likewise with parking tickets and speeding tickets...they can issue a warrant for your arrest. If you owe a person or company money, they can't arrest you for that...

Debtor prison is different in the US .
Regular jails have beds and food .
In the US creditors get court judgments and garnish wages or take what you own .
You get to be homeless and no groceries instead of fed in jail .
