It is a lie to claim that myth is truth. The affirmation of an ability to know about the existence of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth is a fraud that follows from the lie that myth is truth. Conservative ideological authorities perpetrate this fraud inorder to be able; to make threats against the life and or afterlife of anybody who does not submit to their authority; and to extort from communities of faithful believers tithes and offerings in exchange for a lifelong indoctrination in a standard of conduct that these same ideological authorities proclaim to be the discovery of the truth about the will of a good one in Heaven at war with and evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Extortion based on threats made against the life and or afterlife of others and or a fraudulent affirmation of an ability to know about the existence of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth should be considered a crime against humanity because in committing acts of extortion based on fraud that follows from the lie that myth is truth these ideological authorities lead communities of faithful believers to have a low esteem of self and world that is not conducive to happiness and good health.

Ok so most everyone that has given an answer here seems like they are very uneducated about the music world. Have any of you heard about solidstate records??? it is a christian label that is dedicated to mainly metal christian bands. I have a question for you people that say hard rock is for the devil or that you can't praise God with harder music. How on earth are Christians supposed to reach out to those that don't listen to the music that is played at Sunday church or don't listen to the local Christian radio station or that don't like soft music but love to go to shows and love to be around other sweaty people screaming their lungs out?? They hear that stuff and go wow this does not appeal to me at all...That's like taking a vegetarian to a all you can eat steak buffet! A lot of the Christian metal or Christian hardcore bands have much more talent than other Christian bands...such as lyrics.... guitar playing drums....here are some bands for you to listen to and before you bash on them read the lyrics to some of their songs. Maybe then some of you close minded people will open up and realize that there are more ways to praising God than you think.
August Burns Red. Norma Jean. As I lay Dying. Becoming the Archetype. The Chariot. The Devil Wears Prada. Haste the Day. Underoath. Zao...Those are just a couple there are soooo many more. Most of these bands are more talented than a lot of non-christian bands

Music is the Lord's. He invented music. Like many things, the world does distort and destroy.
The rhythm, the instruments, the volume - all can be used to glorify the Lord. I listen to many styles of music and often at a variety of volumes. I can go from Bach to rock in a single CD change.
People who label a style of music as sin have no scriptural leg to stand on - only circular reasoning. It is almost the equivolent to preaching styles, saying that one should preach with "eloquence", showing dignity and "reverence" as opposed to jumping, shouting and even using bad grammar. If the word of God is being declared in truth, style of music (or preaching) does not matter.
There is a book out about a guy who gave up on CCM - I read an excerpt - the author has no solid reasons for anyone to stop listening to it. He had some personal problems with it, so that is his problem, really. He had no solid, scriptural reasons for which CCM can be declared as sin.
When you think about it, our old hymns were the CCM of their day. Many of them were adaptations from secular tunes - even popular bar/pub song tunes.
Go ahead - enjoy your music. As long as the content is lifting up Jesus and the musicians and singers are walking with the Lord and glorifying God, the style does not matter - at all.
Also, the claims about certain beats or instruments being used to overpower people, or affect them physiologically, is pure propoganda, spread by those who wish to make their alleged point.

Sweetie you are right, Christian rock is awesome! There is no scripture against it. Just remember that back in the day of John and Charles Wesley, when people started singing hymns in the church, the fuddy duddies had a cow. They believed that only the psalms were to be sung in church. It's the same thing today. Those people just can't see what God is doing today. Some churches would rather dry up than believe that God is using something that they are not used to.

I can't answer why it's bad, because I don't feel that it is. I can only answer what I have personally experienced and what hasn't been quite expressed by anyone else posting so far. Please note that I like all kinds of music, from country to jazz to classical to different kinds of rock to Christian to hip-hop to hip-hopera - SOME, not ALL, of each.
What attracts me to certain CCM songs:
- It has a pretty much "universal" message - lots of people would find it appealing instead of limiting by faith
- It doesn't preach at me - it requires I think and feel instead
- I feel uplifted/joyful/happy/etc. by both lyrics and tune
- It's something I can sing myself
- It provokes both an emotional and a thoughtful response in me
- The best example I can give of this is "Open the Eyes of My Heart"
Thanks. I needed to remember why. (:

There's nothing basically wrong with Christian Contemporary Music. However, you have to judge it for its content.
A lot of people claim Christianity, but they're not real Christians. In the same way, people can create popular songs they claim to be biblical, but the lyrics only contain what the author puts into it.
Remember too, that any industry where money is involved is wholly capable of being corrupted. The christian recording industry is no exception.
Just be a thinking individual and compare the lyrics of those songs to the word of God. Always judge for yourself!

If the words of a rock song are talking about Jesus, God, redemption, love, peace, helping others, etc., etc., it doesn't matter if it is in traditional hymn form or in heavy rock. It is glorifying God. If someone says it is "bad," they are really just stating a personal preference. At the church we attend, we have LOTS of rock music in worship.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with it--it is God's way of calling diverse people unto himself. How can that be bad?
I am thankful that the music available for praising God is as diverse as the people he is calling. It's amazing.
Here are some artists whose music we have done recently:
The Lost Dogs --Breathe Deep (The Breath of God)
Robbie Seay --Song of Hope
David Crowder Band --O Praise Him, and Here is Our King
Delirious --Solid Rock (great traditional hymn quotes)
Matt Redman -- Breathing the Breath

"Bad" music is subjective. But honestly, "Christian rock" is just another mass-marketed genre of music. What makes it worse is that there isn't any overall originality or consistency when it comes to the music part. It's just "any rock music with Christian-themed lyrics thrown on top". And as with any kind of mass-marketed music, band quantity is more important than quality.
Again if YOU like it, fine. Just don't kid yourself into thinking that it's anything more than a different size of the same-styled shoe. You're no less of a targeted and predictably marketed consumer than the people who buy the top-40 stuff.

The same reason why christian rap is bad. You can't mix the two it's eirher one or the other. I don't know why it is bad..maybe because rock is not wholly and pure and can be very sinful and unlike God in many ways. So you associate the type of music to the sinful words. Therefore anything sounding like rock or rap music is bad becuasei t has a bad association and trying to mix christian into either type of music is not a good thing. Hope that answered your question. God Bless.

I'm an atheist but I quite like the jars of clay.
I don't think any atheist would have a problem with any kind of music but some tracks will sound a bit stupid to them.
Who told you people think christian rock is bad? Is your preacher telling you that atheists think everything you do is bad and are out to destroy you?

I think the big problem is that most of it is just imitation rock music created as an attempt to lure youth away from the real thing. Young people are not stupids and see through that. As with most imitations it misses the real point of what it is copying.
Rock music grew out of the blues, and it is not praise God Gospel music. If they wanted to be christian and rock then they should research the roots and be authentic about it.
The real music speaks about real things.
The Christian versions are mostly cheap propaganda.

Hoosier Daddy puts the point across very nicely.
