And while we're at it, what exactly, is saving grace? And for 10 points, who, exactly, is Jesus Christ?

I don't give anyone a thumbs down, even when I don't like the answer. And I quite liked Wondering Faith's answer - so it wasn't me, friend!

I'm afraid I cannot agree with the notion that Jesus was training to be a Buddhist monk (he never taught reincarnation, for one thing and he upheld the Jewish belief in a Creator God for another). And as for surviving the crucifixion - that he didn't really die - I've heard the arguments on that and wholeheartedly disagree. It's hard for people to grasp that Jesus, while fully man, was also divine. It's only when you meet up with the risen Christ that you can begin to understand.

First, the Father must draw us to Christ.

Joh 6:44 No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

Those whom the Father draws are those whose names have been written in the Lamb's book of life from the beginning. Salvation is a total work of God.

Rom 8:29 because whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers.
Rom 8:30 But whom He predestinated, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

The Holy Spirit indwells the believer, to bring conviction of sin, comfort us, teach us, and be an "earnest" or down payment on our inheritance.

Eph 1:13 in whom also you, hearing the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also believing you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14 who is an earnest of our inheritance, to the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

It is by God's grace, or unmerited favor, that we are saved. He owes us nothing, it is by His favor that anyone is saved.

Jesus is God, very God, the second member of the trinity. The lamb of God, the lion of the tribe of Judah. The only One through whom salvation is given.

Act 4:12 and there is salvation in no other One, for neither is there any other name under Heaven having been given among men by which we must be saved.

I had not been to church or brought up in a Christian family, I was zapped by the Holy Spirit at a friend's baptism.
Saving grace is the undeserved gift we get when we understand that we need forgiveness, and accept the free gift of salvation.
Jesus is the second person of the Trinity.

I was brought up as a Jehovah's Witness and considered myself to be a Christian. I believed that only Jehovah's Witnesses would survive Armageddon and it was my hope to live forever on a paradise earth. My 'salvation' was not assured, however, because I had been told I could only have a portion of the holy spirit, and it was imperative that I go from door to door preaching the good news of the kingdom (the version according to the Watch Tower Society) and be obedient to the organisation. When Armageddon failed to turn up circa 1975, I left.

About 20 years later the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sinful state and drew me to Christ. It was the Holy Spirit at work in my life that saved me, because I did not understand who Jesus Christ really is. When I met up with the risen Lord and Saviour I gladly gave myself to him - resistance is useless in the face of such overwhelming love!

As others have already said, saving grace is a gift from God. You certainly don't deserve it and you absolutely don't have to earn it. Unlike the teachings of the Watch Tower Society, I realised that Jesus was much more than a mere mortal, and that he is part of the triune nature of the Godhead. Through the Holy Spirit and study of the Bible, I came to understand that the Holy Spirit is not merely God's energy, but God with us today, just as Jesus was God with us when he came to earth.

Christ has established his church (so one could say that is an organisation) and the Gates of Hades shall not prevail against her, but salvation is entirely of God's grace. It is my experience that it is the work of the Holy Spirit to lead people to Christ. I used to belong to an organisation which demanded total obedience and loyalty, and I thought I was a Christian. But the Holy Spirit showed me otherwise.

Why are there only two choices? I have a suggestion for a third: An organization which Jesus founded in order to bring you, through the Holy Spirit, to saving grace

Evidence suggest that Jesus was trained to be a buddhist monk between the ages of 13 and 28.That's why there are no records from that time.He came back from the east to preach the word of goodwill to his own people. He returned to the east after surviving the crucifiction where he is buried in a small tomb in a mountain village in nepal. All scientists have to do is dig up the remains to prove it but they are not allowed because it is sacred ground. If there was more space I'd give you more details.

I was by myself when I asked Christ into my heart, because I figured if He IS God, He can meet me where I am at and not at a church. And He did, in a BIG way. Been walking and talking with Him for 36 years now. It was near Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in my parents house at Eglin AFB in 1970.

I have always wanted a personal relationship with my Creator, but never knew how to gain it. Christianity showed me how and proved it beyond what I could imagine. The Bible showed me that this salvation was free, with no requirements other than to believe and trust in the Savior as Lord.
