I have Sony TV KDE-42xs955, Sony DVD upconvert and receiver HK AVR 430.
I need your help to find out why my HDMI connection is not working.
Here are my current set up that did not work (no picture):
TV connect to DVD using HDMI cable
DVD connect to Receiver for audio to optical digital input using Toslink cable.
The problem:
I have the sound from speakers but I did not get any picture from TV.
If I connect the TV to DVD using component cable (Monster Cable) then I got picture but it is only display 480p.
Do you know why I did not get any picture if using HDMI?
Did I need to use any other cable?
why it is only display 480p using component cable?
I have checked the DVD setting and it's HDMI setting and is set to auto.
I did not see any TV setting for HDMI except it default to video 6 channel/ port.
Please help me with this problem.

Go to the DVD player's setup menu and make sure you output video over the HDMI port.

Due to copy-restriction issues, DVD players can only output up to 480p over component.

After you connect all cables, if you still see no video:
Leave TV on
Turn off the player and then on. This allows the player to recheck HDCP settings with the TV. If it does not work, you have a bad cable.

Yes, DirecTV HD receivers and HD-DVRs do have HDMI outputs. HDMI is the way to go with HD viewing as this allows for raw digital HD transmission of signal from the receiver to your set, whereas with component video the signal is converted to analog and then re-converted to digital by your receiver. S-video cable could also provide good transmission, but still HDMI is highly recommended.

-Try unplugging the audio cable, you may be canceling out the signal by having two things plugged into your DVD payer.
-If you have two HDMI cables and your receiver has a HDMI INPUT and OUTPUT you can connect that way for the time being.
-Make sure the HDMI port you're plugging into on the TV is for INPUT. My TV has two INPUTs and one OUTPUT.
-Check your TV and DVD players user manual and if you don't have one download it. My TV or my PS3 required a special set up in the menu when I decided to use the HDMI.
