...."so we headed over to the Loyola University Health System, where a newsletter focusing on health myths addressed the topic of swallowing chewing gum. In their opinion, it's not the healthiest thing you can do, but if you do swallow your gum, it will simply pass through your system undigested into your stool (much like fiber).

The consensus seems that it's best to toss your chewed-out gum in the trash, but if you do happen to swallow a piece, don't worry -- it won't sit in your tummy for seven years. "

It's only a problem if you swallow bubblegum. Then if you have gas in your stomach, it will cause the gum to make a big bubble and your stomach will start to expand. Only joking...I think you will just pass the gum like you pass all of your other foods. Think about it... There have never been a warnings in the papers about swallowing your chewing gum. Of course, there were surely some "old wives tales" saying that it would stick to your insides, etc. Don't sweat it!

Yeah, it passes thru you. There is no danger to swallowing gum. There is an urban legend that it takes 7 years to digest, but that is false. I have also heard some say that it can cause appendicitis, but I have never heard any proof of that. Even so, I have swallowed a lot of chewing gum in my life and I have never had any ill effects.

It really goes into your stomach and through your gastro-intestinal tract. An old wives' tale states that chewing gum, if swallowed, may take up to seven years to become fully digested, and that swallowing gum could also result in the substance becoming lodged in the esophagus. Chewing gum does resist complete digestion by the body; it is generally expelled like other foods in 95% of individuals, though relatively unchanged. [12] In rare cases, some individuals who have been known to swallow chewing-gum regularly and who are predisposed can aid the growth of bezoars within their stomachs or intestines

well to be honest gum isnt meant to be swallowed...but if you do it doesnt stay in your stomach...it gets caught up with the other food that you eat and it gets pulled out of your stomach...some say that it takes 7 years or whatever for your stomach to process the gum...well that would be true if your stomach didnt push the food into your intestines and out of your body...you have nothing to worry about :)

At first, you start to have constipation . After a while you start to throw up. Then you will gain about 3 pounds each day for about 17 days then, you finally poop it out.
