It started out as 'Samhain'...a sort of 'Day of the Dead' for Celtic people. It was a very spiritual time for them. Then the Catholics came along and tried to turn it into 'All Saints Eve' which somehow became 'All Hallows Eve'. Then some people (probably teenagers) started playing pranks that got out of hand so then it wasn't celebrated. Then there were a lot of Irish immigrants to America so it started being celebrated again. It was a national holiday for a while but, again, some pranksters starting getting too out of control. Now, it's considered a religious holiday even though it's pretty much secular. There are some who still see it as spiritual, many who think it's just a day to dress up and have fun and some who think it's all about evil b/c of misconceptions on their part.

Oct. 31st is considered a New Year in the old Wicca religions. It's associated with rebirth, etc. Nothing really Satanic about it.
During the Middle Ages of Europe, the Catholic church was on a mission to convert these heathen Wiccas and other non Catholic groups. One way was to spread misinformation about these groups. The Catholic church began to demonize the practices of the Wiccans by saying that there hats were the horn of Satan, they cast evil spells, they use a broom in a sexual manner (eventually became riding the broom), etc. So eventually, the Wiccans began to look bad in the Catholic eyes, and therefore were persecuted and killed, or converted. These beliefs hang to this day, hence the scary look of Halloween, the evil looking witch, etc.
So, if any credit is to be given for the creation of our modern day Halloween, it's to the Catholic church for there terrorism tactics and disinformation. We can thank them for that.
Makes you wonder who practices Satanic ways.

I believe that Halloween has the potential to be a satanic holiday, but that it also has the potential to be a simple celebration where people are allowed to face what frightens them most, while getting candy as a reward. Plus, it's the only time a year where I don't get funny looks if I dress like a Jedi, and I like dressing like a Jedi.

I love Halloween. It could only be satanic if we make it that way. It is a nature religion holiday, concerned with harvest and the planting cycles (as is Winter Solistice/Christmas). And these religions don't have anything to do with Satanism, generally.
Satanism is a completely different religion, focused on EGO, power and control.

Pagan in origin, but not satanic.
The modern version isn't even really pagan. Its just a fun thing to do.
Some pagan sects celebrate a holiday on that day, but they don't call it halloween and they tend to have completely different traditions that generally don't include costumes and candy.
The people that consider halloween to be evil really need to pull that big stick out of their @zz.

No, absolutely not! Halloween has its roots in Paganism and has become a secular holiday over thousands of years. Halloween has nothing to do with Satanism.

No, I do not. It is based on a pagan holiday but so is christmas. People like the macabre and they like to be scared a little bit (under controlled circumstances). Also, kids like to dress up and they of course like the candy. Halloween is one of the funnest holidays there is.
