I'm not asking if it's a lie. I'm asking WHY anyone would bother to lie about it. What would be the point?

Please don't waste your time and mine by trying to convice me global warming is real because I ALREADY AGREE.

I work in a research lab and I can tell you that scientists don't make all that much money from their reseach. The money and grants they get go to paying their staff and buying the equipment and supplies needed to do the actual research itself.

Oil companies and other industries make so much more money than scientists. If people think global warming is real it would hurt their profit margins.

"The Great Global Warming Swindle" , and every other documentary I have watched that claims global warming are full of terrible science. The "facts" they present are either very out of date or they leave out some other key part of the explaination so that they can support their claim. I suggest you carefully look into any information you gain from any documentary with any point of view. While I think Al Gore means well, his science is not very good either.

From what I have seen the current government has done everything it can to convice people global warming is not real. They have far more to gain than taxes.

A proposal is no small matter. You have to submit all of your previous research to be reviewed. If you lie you won't get a grant. You're a liability to the people supplying the grants.
In an area like climate science, which is very popular right now, there are many people doing similar research which means there is lots of people out there who will test your findings to see if you're correct.

Environmentalists/businesses - they can make money off the 'global warming hoax' by selling green products and carbon credits and things like that.

One world order - or new world order - the biggest conspiracy theory is that the whole world will unite under this giant hoax due to fears of our destruction, so that we can all be controlled by one big government. Something like the UN, which will control our lives. Or something like that - I never really understood this whacko theory. It's a pretty rare one, but it pops up from time to time.

Of course it's obvious that it's not a lie. That's not how science works. We're all perfectly free to examine all the climate science data we want. If you think a scientist is lying, just go check out his data for yourself. As you've noted, there's a thorough peer-review process as well. The only way global warming could be a hoax would be if 99% of climate scientists were completely dishonest and corrupt. This is an absurd suggestion, to say the least.

I was a believer when I saw Gore's Documentary, then I saw the counter-documentary.
And after a few discussions, this is my conclusion:

We as humans do contribute to the problem, but we are not the biggest contributors.. The oceans are. And even if we didnt have cars this time and age, the c02 from these oceans would still would cause this global warming to happen and still create massive natural disasters that derrive from it (cars or not).

So the ones who would most likely benefit the most from "the fact" (ehem) that "we are the cause of this" are the governements themselves. They do this by using this so called fact as an excuse, putting the guilt on citizens' shoulders,
let us do our best (cause we add a little) to even out the eco-system balance and saying we should cut back on car usage, energy consumption, and they even hand out fines to us if we don't. They let us pay for and use dim energy saving lights, while they also raise taxes on numerous things thus having a way to take more money from us we worked so hard for. While, and this is a real world fact, they need the economy-wheel to survive so they do DO invest in it by building unfriendly energy plants.. while having convieniently let us even out the score.

And thats the sad truth. It cuts in both ways, whatever they say they will need excuses to raise taxes so they can rasie money to spend on things like camp david, expensive cocktails, Airforce1.. While we turn eco-friendly they most certainly wont cut back and wont drive smaller cars, etc etc.

Bush is also in a crisis now, he needs some *publicity stunt* to save his face before he lays off and hands over the presidency to someone else.. Thats why I think he's on this Gore-trip now.

Its all dirty politics guys/girls! Dont be ignorant and dumb, cuz if you are, bush will most certainly laugh himself to sleep/every night at your expense.

here are some of the predictions i grew up with over the past 40 years:

mass death
shifting of food production regions
climate change

global cooling
mass starvation
massive glaciers

all this was supposed to happen by the year 2000, and if man didn't stop using fossil fuels. we had 30+ years of "irrefutable data" showing that man caused it too.

If you have a study and it says all is good, then case over, nothing left to do, no more study. But if you have a study that finds all sorts of dire things, then more study is obviously warranted. But don't worry. The motivation to lie about global warming exists with a small but very well funded group of individuals who want to avoid having to change business as usual, whoever those individuals are. Ultimately, the people who are benefitting from this anti-environmental situation are the owners of companies who refuse to change and the investors in those companies. Unfortunately, the benefits from this lie are short lived when severe climate change, i.e, increased natural disasters are considered. Hopufully in the near future, we'll begin to see more capitalism WITH a conscience and the positive results of it - global cooling, stabilization and reduction of severe weather, and more solutions to the worlds most pressing problems.

Apart from the USA, hundreds of nations of the world has no tough laws to deal with the situation!

The confirmed fact that energy consumed by the mankind using the fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas in the last 60 years after the world war II is more than all the fuel used in the last 2000 years of human existence, leave us nothing to doubt about the events to follow in this century, if we fail to take the right measures to save the Earth and the humanity!
