No. The PS3 does not need memory cards to play games. It has a built-in hard drive. That's what the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB mean. Those are all hard drive sizes that are used to save and upload games.

the ps3 has a built in hard drive (depending on which model you get it could be 20gb or 60gb)
so all your game saves are stored inside your ps3!!
you also store photos, music and video on your ps3.... and apparently it will also double as a freeview box from next year sometime!!!
