--GOD DOES NOT punish, what ever evil we might be experiencing could be from what we ourselves have reaped from what wrongs we have done, Please note:
(James 1:13-15) “13Â When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. 14Â But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15Â Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.”
--SECONDLY there is the situation that exists that is just by accident, not "bad luck":
(Ecclesiastes 9:11) “. . .I returned to see under the sun that the swift do not have the race, nor the mighty ones the battle, nor do the wise also have the food, nor do the understanding ones also have the riches, nor do even those having knowledge have the favor; because time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all.”
--THERE IS ALSO the evil & corrupt system that Satan has conjured up to even make it hard for innocent people to enjoy life to any reasonalbe measure:
(1 Peter 5:8) “. . .Keep YOUR senses, be watchful. YOUR adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour [someone].”

Read Hebrews 12. God chastens or punishes whom he loves as a loving father corrects his child he loves. God will reveal to you the sin or action that is causing the punishment usually but not always. Sometimes suffering is to teach us something about life. If nothing else not to take the good times for granted.

look at the spelling of god in your question...
god.. (small letter) - god of the underworld.... is punishing you but
real God will never.... because he is pure love! And since your asking about the devil......(small letter)... I prefer not to talk about it... am not interested about the devil... but the God of love and goodness I am interested with.! God don't punish!

He isnt, The so called punishment is just the payoff of our actions, God Loves he doesnt punish.
