Trust is rational, based on experience.

Faith is irrational, based on wishing.

By having Faith, a person has everything to gain, and nothing to lose. Faith gives the things a person hopes for substance. Faith gives a person the confidence he needs to move mountains. A faithful person is honest and obedient, and leads a successful life because, with Faith, all things are possible. Now, more specifically, Faith is what you have. Trust is what you give. Faith is a noun. You can have Faith, or you can have lunch. Or you could even have both. Trust is a verb. You can trust someone, or you can pinch them. Or, again, you could even do both. Just don't pinch someone while they're having lunch. They might drop their sandwich.

You trust when things have a record of working - hence why people ask others to "prove the are trustworthy" or say the "trust in something" - This thing/person has done what you needed/wanted/expected it to many times and you have no reason to believe it would do otherwise.

Faith is different in that you have no record of that person/thing's action, but you choose to put forward your belief in it anyway. This could be because of personal/philosophical/religious ideaology. This also could be because you've seen a sign that may indicate this person/thing will perform as you expect it to.

For example: I trust Maria. She's been my best friend for years - I've told her my deepest darkest secrets, I've been in jams - and she has proven time and time again that is is the person she says she is.

I have faith in Amanda. We're friends, and she's nice to people, and has done nice things for other people. However, I haven't gone through a difficult time with Amanda, so I can't say for sure that she would do the same stuff for me that Maria would. However, her actions, and what others say about her, indicate that she would also live up to her word.

Faith is belief in things unseen.
Trust is a condition between two or more people that has been built over time through concrete actions (i.e. someone lends money to a friend, who repays the money without hassle. The lender will be more trusting with bigger amounts later if asked because of prior history)

good question!

Trust is the result of faith. Faith is both a gift of God and a fruit of the spirit. Faith comes to us from hearing the word of God.

Trust is our response, the outcome of having faith.

God grants us faith. He never grants us "trust". Trust is something we develop through faith.

god bless

Ignoring the stupid provocative answers from atheists, they are closely related. In both cases, you are depending on somebody else to do something for you, often that you can't for some reason do yourself. I trust the mailman to deliver the mail to my house because I can't just have it magically appear from my friend in the Dominican Republic, and I can't just waltz down to the post office and pull it out of the bins there. You can also say I have faith that the mailman will property deliver my mail.

In the particular case of salvation, of course, we are trusting in the Lord Jesus's work on the cross to save us. In the same way, we can say we have faith in Him. That's why if somebody says they have "faith" but they are trusting on their own merit to make it to heaven, they do not truly have faith.

Edit: I don't agree that God doesn't grant trust. All good things come from God. Therefore He must grant me the ability to trust in Him, because I would never do it on my own. If it was up to me, I'd still be an atheist and happy in my own sins.

Faith is based on words.

Trust is based on prior actions.

I know that the sun is up.

I trust that it will rise again tomorrow.

I have faith that it is carried across the sky by Ra's boat.

Faith is believing something that can't be proven.
Trust is knowing that someone would never deliberately harm you.

Trust is more reliable, because while not foolproof, it is usually based on the sum of past experiences.

Faith is just trusting something because you want to, with no good reason.
