my fiance and i last night decided to toss out about 80% of our plans, and revamp our entire wedding. We're both stars and moon fanatics, and have decided to go with a dark blue and silver themed celestial wedding. (i had initally planned on using wine colors...but that wasn't really us and I wasn't over thrilled with it)

i was so excited i stayed up practically all night figuring a lot of things out. Right now though I'm stuck on two things.

Flowers, (i was going to use lillies before..but wondering what I could use now or what would look best)

and I'm also stuck on Centerpieces.

Any suggestions?

For your bouquet, you can use white lilies and have the florist spray the tips of them with silver paint or glitter paint to make them stand out. Then have her tie the stems with your dark blue in a thick dark blue satin ribbon.

Other fun ideas would be to name your tables after constellations or all things celestial related, in place of table numbers. Also, consider having your wedding at a planetarium or outside. I think that center pieces with moon shaped or star shaped candles floating in water would be beautiful. Or having large flowering branches in vases adorned with glittery stars and/or moons hanging from the branches. Or buy votives and arrange them in the shape of moons and stars on the table and place a low lying white floral centerpiece in the center of each design.

Celestial Wedding Theme

You forgot to mention what the budget was but anyway you are completely in luck since I just started planning a wedding at a planetarium!

BTW...if you could get one of those for your event they are amazing. You do the ceremony in the planetarium with a sky of stars or whatever overhead and candlelight. It's very romantic.

The invitations, we are printing on the back of a star finder
The centerpieces, I am making some tallish candle surrounds and we are poking holes in the paper. Inside will be an LED light so it looks like stars in a sky. Instead of a mirrored tile I have used some textured paint to make a flat circular "moon" (not hokey crescent) and in the craters we are putting tealights and I've dusted it with just a little luster dust. Instead of the florals on the tables we are making something sort of like a lei that will be draped on the chairs, then guests may wear and take them home so it doubles as yet another favor. The underlay of the linens is a iredescent purple with a matte finish blue on top with a slight swirl pattern.
Flowers, she's carrying her fav. flower that is in her colors (royal blue and deep purple). In the boquet I've made some boquet jewels.
The tables are named after famous constellations or she might do famous astronaut's names
The favors are moon cookies with star sprinkles. On the desert buffet will be "cosmic brownies" (you know with the little candies...the groom's fav)
For their exit we are using sparklers

Congrats on the meeting of the minds. Don't you love it when something comes together and feels so right?

As far as flowers... hm I'm not as good at that as I like to think... maybe something with baby's breath as an accent...
I was just poking around (looked up blue flowers) and one site had links... an FTD ad had deep red and purple roses and hydrangeas... that was cool

Or white/cream roses with blue and silver ribbons?

Are you partial to any particular type of flower?? It's relatively easy to dye or spray flowers any color now...

Centerpieces, if you go to Stumps prom & party supply and search celestial, it gives all sorts of things. Here's a link: http://www.stumpsprom.com/search.cfm?searchCriteria=celestial&searchType=google
OR
Maybe blue candles with white twinkle lights? Mirrors with blue twinkle lights & silver candles?

Wish I were doing party planning instead of school. Speaking of which, back to the books.

Below are a list of sites that have favors and centerpieces . Now on the flowers you could do a blue and white flower with silver accents. That is such a great ideal. Good luck

It depends on what colors your table linens are. For example, if blue will primarily be your theme..

Then you might choose white flowers (any choice of yours be it roses, lilies, hydrangeas etc) with curling willow sprayed with silver.

Or with a primarily silver table (with perhaps blue chair covers rather than the black shown in the following link).

Your napkin rings could have a celestial symbol even if the centerpieces don't have the star or moon on them. It could just be the colors used in your reception decor that reflect the celestial theme.

lots of great ideas but wouldn't stargazer lillies still fit into your floral theme as the lighter note. Found some awesome heirloom deep purple hydrangeas, the two would look nice together. Plus the lillies have a beautiful scent.

They are a bunch of dark flowers out there... the african violets, and iris, carnations, and have them dotted with bright white roses periodically.

As for centerpieces... i say use twigs, inserted into the balls of dark flowers.. and from teh twigs dangle stars on strings from the branches. if you get them mirrored, they will reflect light across the room like twinkling stars. (we're doing something similar to that... i made two sided mirrors on fishing line)

Have it at night, under the stars, and you can have candles instead of flowers, and centerpieces can be light-up stars with little decorations for accent or floating candles.
