A cat kind of adopted us a couple of years ago and I don't have a clue how old it is, but I also have a cat that is not even a year old and both of them have sagging stomachs. I feed them the wal-mart brand food and wondered if the kind of food they are eating is causing it. Anybody know what could be causing it?

Its called a primordial pouch and it is genetic. I know that at cat shows it is desirable in some breeds and it is part of the judging. Also, some breeds of large wild cats have this too.

I have two cats that both have it and one who does not. They all eat the same food, etc. They are all fixed. The ones who do have it, one is a girl and the other is a boy. The cat without it is a girl. So, you can see that it is not environmental or based on sex or whether or not they are fixed.

Sounds like they might be a little overweight. My advice would be to get the weight down ASAP. They generally put it on just in front of their hind legs, like a little beg hanging there. Extra weight can bring problems down the line when they hit middle - old-age.

No, their just fat and sassy. All my cats have this extra belly flap that swings from side to side as they walk/run. Do you feed your cats free choice(food available at all times)? They are getting slightly over weight.

They do that when they are either pudgy-fat, or if they have lost the weight, it's loose skin. No worries.
But please give them a better food than Walmart! Special Kitty and Ol Roy are the worst things on the market nutritionally.

Well the cheap food may be making them bloat, but I think it's more likely that they have been neutered. I think that is a side effect of the process/lack of kitty hormones.

it is their extra fat. most 'fixed;' cats get this. i am lucky mmine haven't developed this but they are feed three time a day 400-800g between them (two large tins) and 120g of dry food every day there's three of them including a 23 week old kitten

Overeating? Are you rationing his food as the bag says. Don't feed him every time he meows.

is it their fur, or their stomachs? sometimes a cat's fur on their belly is really long and it makes them look a bit chubby. are your cats overweight? you should get them checked out at the vet.
